Technology has revolutionised the way we communicate over the past few years. Texting, apps and video calling have made staying in touch with family, friends and colleagues possible, in ways that were unimaginable just a generation ago. Most can speak face to face with people who are thousands of miles away as easily as if they were in the same room by using a smartphone.
Most of us that is; However, Deaf and hard of hearing people who rely on text and subtitles have, unfairly, been left behind. HearClear intends to change this through delivering video calling with live subtitles through the smartphone.

Brilliant Idea
Have been waiting for an app like this to speak to my deaf friend! Speech to text as subtitles with video is a game-changer. My first video call was emotional for me. The speed and accuracy of my deaf friends text was perfect but my speech to text was slow and not very accurate. We are both English speaking South Africans and the accent is very clear. Please continue to improve this wonderful and life changing idea!!! Thank you!
Very limited.
I had high hopes for this app but sadly it does not live up to them. Both speakers needing to be registered and have iPhones is a big blow. I really need something to help with calls to and from places like doctors’ surgeries, hospitals and call centres as it is in those situations I have the biggest problem making out what the caller is saying. I have tested the app with my husband but find that the subtitles are no better than live subtitles on TV programmes. Maybe over time it would get to know our voices and improve but I don’t really need the subtitle facility with my husband as his voice is very familiar to me so think I will probably delete the app.
Excellent technology
Works perfectly, can see live text version that allows me to understand everything the other person is saying
