Doesn’t work with photosmart C7200 but does with Officejet 7610

Recognised my printer/scanner(s). However with the C7200 I got the dreaded message: "HP Photosmart C7200 series is currently unavailable. Ensure your device is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the device and try scanning again". Which of course I did, and of course got the same message. Shame because it works with the other scanner I have, the HP 7610 (which is a pretty awful A3 printer - don’t recommend it, it was very cheap but worth paying a few quid more for a Cannon, as it can’t do double sided without leaving massive margins or rescaling so its not to scale, so no good for printing double sided documents that have a header/footer). Going back to Easyscan, with it working it also does OCR which is nice. So 1 star for the C7200 and 5 for the 7610. However because it should work with both I’ve put it at 2 star.

Anyway for anyone who this doesn’t work and just needs a scan and isn’t fussed about OCR then use the inbuilt Apple 'Image Capture' which does work. You’ll find it in launchpad > Other and then you might need to click on ‘shared’ to see your scanner if connected to wifi.

Broken

Unbelievable! Downloaded HP’s new ‘Easy Start’ which is billed as "the new way to set up your HP printer and prepare your Mac for printing. HP Easy Start will locate and install the latest software for your printer and then guide you through printer setup.”
Yes, it did all that, even scanned the test page within the app, told me all was done so I opened the app to scan something and got the usual error message "HP Scanjet 5590 is currently unavailable. Ensure your device is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the device and try scanning again.’
Thi is b******* as I can use the scanner in Mac OS own Printers and Scanners preference pane, so it’s just the HP software that doesn’t work.
Why is HP so uselessa t MAC software? Always has been and still is.

Good Basic App

I downloaded the app for its OCR capabilities only, not the scan features as MacOS has its own. The HP app is basic but neat. If you expect a professional OCR app, this one is not for you. And it only works for HP scanners (obviously).
Users are able to scan multiple pages in a row and then save all images (JPG or TIFF) at once, which is handy. Images files are automatically named sequentially, i.e. MyScan 1, MyScan 2, etc. If saving in plain PDF format, there is the option of saving all scans into a single file.
Unfortunately, it took me a few minutes to find out how to use the OCR feature as the help search doesn’t have any OCR topic.
TIP: Simply select PDF-Searchable, RTF or TXT when saving a file and the OCR dialogue appears. There are a few languages options in the drop-down menu.
I gave 3 stars because of the limited help topics and OCR features. But if you need an OCR software for sporadic work, this app is ideal for you. But don’t expect the OCR processing to convert all characters in your image file into text.
