Just right

I have recently been looking to get my personal finances in order and have tried several of the available iphone applications for this task. None of them managed to provide what I was looking for until I found iCompta. Whilst the other apps seemed more geared towards accountants I was looking for something to track my finances, give me breakdowns of where money was spent *and* be really easy to jump into. And this is where iCompta excels - it is easy and dare I say it, fun, to jump in and start tracking your money.

It generates beautiful pie charts and reports and supports syncing to the free(!) desktop version of the app. The desktop version really makes this app shine as you can import your bank statements and have rules set up to categorise everything for you. In this way you can automate much of the tedious side of finance tracking and then use the iphone app to record cash purchases and other little notes day to day.

The latest version also uses easier to understand wording and the developer is quick to respond to suggestions for improvements.

The ability to encrypt documents to keep your financial records secure sealed the deal for me.

So, I would recommend you download the desktop app first if you are on OSX and then, when you love it as much as I did, get this fantastic iPhone companion app.

Phew! Let me end by saying that until now I have not felt compelled to write a review for any of the other apps I purchased!

Fab app but needs better translation

This is the first review I have written and this is because I have been looking for just this type of app since buying my iPod. In fact I got the iPod just to keep better track of my finances, imagine my horror when I realize that all the finance apps were pants. This one blows them out of the water.

Firstly you can have multiple accounts and each one can be in a different currency. You can have recurring transactions, budgets, pie charts to see where your money goes and wait for it. ... A graph which shows how the balance of your account look in the future which is excellent for managing money.

Another feature, which a previous reviewer obviously didn't read the text about the app, is the people function which allows you to track who you owe (or the other way round) what. It like to your contacts or you can create one from scratch.

I'd definately recommend this app to everyone who needs to track their finances in depth.

The only down side is that a few of the terms are vague such as operation means transaction and operation type means transaction catagory. But when you realize it's originally a french app you can allow for this. There is a support forum and I have suggested these changes and seeing as the app hasn't been out long I'm hopeful. If it changes I'll change rating to 5 star.

Have a play with the functions and you'll see what I mean.

I have tried a number of finance programmes over the years. Initially with Quicken, then Microsoft Money and then with the release of the iPhone and then the iPad, a number of apps. I came across this a few days ago and at present I'd say it is the best I have come across. Very simple to set up, configure your categories and accounts and by using groups have sub categories where the subject is similar but you want separate entries in the same group - e.g. putting groceries and dining out under general house keeping. It works very well on the MAC. Having got the app for both my iPhone and iPad I have found it easy to use and backing up and syncing no problem it using Dropbox to sync. It takes a little digging to see how that is done - in fact a quick visit to the software writer's forum and you soon find the answer. A great bit of software, lots of clarity, presentation is good and its easy to use unlike many others. I have no problem giving this 5 stars.
