Wordsmyth - Calm Word Play 4+

I love it

As simple as word games get. And yet so challenging. Everyday a new puzzle, each beautifully presented. A delight to play. Improvement? Maybe the ability to shuffle the letters? But as it stands, perfectly conceived and delivered. I love it.

Update: absolutely love the shuffle in the new update. Plus other improvements. So very well thought out. My favourite word game is now even better.

Thank you so much for your review - really pleased to hear you’re enjoying Wordsmyth! An update is currently in a late testing state, so should be out ASAP. Amongst a number of new features is the option to shuffle the letter grid, which I hope you will enjoy!

Nice concept but needs some improvement

The basics of this game are great: its elegant simplicity and the unhurried daily puzzle format are as relaxing as advertised, at least at first. That’s until you get to a word that’s not in general use, such as the name of some obscure medical treatment, and then you end up frantically trying every feasible combo of letters to try and get past the last few hints and finish the puzzle (yes, I’m a perfectionist, please don’t tell me I don’t have to finish it). At that point, it’s more frustrating than calming. A basic in-app dictionary would also be helpful in order to remember new words for the next time around. And how is a commonly used word like ‘Gilet’ not included in the search? This could be a relaxing, 5-star word game with just a few tweaks to the word bank it uses.

The dictionary used in Wordsmyth has been one of the biggest issues so far, and something I’m working hard to resolve. It currently uses the Scrabble dictionary which does seem overly filled with obscure words. Im working hard on an update currently, with an aim to replace the dictionary with a standard English one. This will certainly mean a reduction in words to find each day - but I’m certain those missing words will be the obscure ones. Keep playing, and look out for news on an update coming soon!

Great but gobbles battery, overheats

The game itself is very good and exactly as it describes itself. But... it overheats my (older) iPad, and gobbles up 30% of my battery in half an hour, despite turning on the app's “battery saver” and disabling the “tilt” option. Maybe an option to disable all the background graphic's animations, or to have a choice between the default and a simpler less resource hungry background, would help? But, as it is now, even if I were to keep the charger in whilst playing, it wouldn’t prevent the overheating.
