IFR Trainer Flight Instruments 4+

Really helpful but needs fine tuning

I am finding this app really helpful as I am doing my IR course now. However as we all fly different planes, the set 1.5deg p/s and 3deg p/s for rate one is only suited for planes that fly 100kt. As I fly 120kt in the holds it would be useful to have a setting to change the rate one turn, in my case it’s 21deg p/s. Allowing for different speeds and rate ones would then allow for correct WCAs. Would also be helpful to have a stopwatch in the trainer view and not only in the cockpit view. At the moment I’m having to switch quickly from one view to the other to manage the stopwatch which is not ideal.

A good basic radio navigation trainer

The EASA PPL syllabus includes radio navigation. I teach it. It involves basic use of VOR and ADF. Teaching it in flight means the student is coping with their own flying inaccuracy, and the vagueness of even the strongest NBD. This app allows the student to learn radio nav skills in isolation, which speeds understanding. It’s also a LOT cheaper than flying hours. To the complainer about not being able to ‘fly by iPad’ using the accelerometer, it’s not a flight sim game, it’s a serious training tool.

One comment I would second, however, is please make turns rate one.

Current version is of limited use for IFR training

Current version of this APP has some good features- which are useful for seeing how VORs work when flying around. However the function to give details of entry procedures for IFR flight training is of limited use. The content of the training is correct for learning entry procedures. But the test section is very confusing and frankly wrong. The "Quick finder" will come up with different information from the test when the same information is put in. The test will confuse left and right hand entry procedures- so will give you a question about a standard procedure but the image and answer is for a left hand procedure (and vice versa)! I hope the developers can fix this as it would be a great tool if it worked correctly.
