The age of the internet might give some the illusion that with it comes new freedoms, infinite variety that enriches all our experience. The evidence, however, suggests that those who were first to establish niche sites or had the financial clout to establish a stranglehold monopoly at the cost of variety or choice, are both growing in power and slowly subsuming the smaller players until we the consumer find ourselves buying from fewer and fewer sources. IMDB is far and away the biggest and best movie/tv site. The income it once felt needed to come from those in the movie industry ( a digital ‘Spotlight’ for casting directors ) is now as nothing to its income from advertisers. The Biblical status of IMDB to movie lovers, suggests to me that the users whose presence gives it value, deserve some payback as does the history and cultural status of the industry it ‘serves’. Do IMDB genuinely expect the ancestors of actors to pay for the empty portrait frames to be filled, those performers whose images are slowly decaying in forgotten vaults will completely vanish from the memories of the few that remember them. The digital stream of consciousness should have no blanks because the perceived ‘profit’ makes a page of empty portraits seem acceptable.Please take some pride in your importance as a data base fill in the gaps.If anybody ever reads this verbose and opinionated rant I will be very surprised but late night platforms are a temptation to Coca fuelled bores who ‘tweet’, ‘Facebook’ and publish because they can. I could be watching Sinatra in ‘Man with the Golden Arm’, following fashion, learning what’s ‘cool’ , kid, straight from the horses mouth! Not the dead horse, of course, the ... IMDb is a really useful site for checking out any films you are interested in, keeping all the films you have rated together in a list. It is also cool to see the combined rating for a film based on what thousands of others think. It’s also cool to see the trivia about the films you have watched as you learn stuff. 2 problems with IMDb.1. Whenever you rewatch a film, you might want to give the film another rating, as opinions can change when you watch films a second time. the problem though is that when you rerate these films, they go back to the top of your recently watched list, which can be a pain for those who like to see the order of the films they have watched. There have even been times where I have wanted to change my rating of films I saw a couple weeks ago, but didn’t bother as it would mess up the list. Perhaps what they should do is make a folder/list of films that have been rerated so that it stays the same place it was in the list, and you can see your rating for the first and second viewing.2. As someone who loves movies, I often like to reflect on what I’ve seen over a certain time such as a few months, but the problem with this is that it doesn’t tell you the date when you rated this movie, which is annoying. If IMDB is going to keep track of every film you watched in a a list, I also feel that it should say what date it was when I watched each film, for convenience.Minor issues but if IMDb could fix the rating system a little and implement the date it was when you rate a film, these little improvements would make the app easier and better as I would be able to keep track of every detail that I wanted to know about the films I have watched.

I have been visiting the IMDB website since around the 2000 (there about). Before that my means of entertainment information was through movie review magazine which was not cheap and limited in content. Imagine when the need to refer to an old movie that has just become available on streaming? Besides, I ran out of space to keep all the hard copies. I like the fact that he reviews are written by many people instead of just a few who might have agenda. I had tried participating in their discussion forum in the past but was put off by immature anti-social behaviour which unfortunately permeated many walks of society. Otherwise, IMDB is fab. The site has added many more features in the last 17 years, I’m hopeful that the brilliant guys and gals at IMDB will continue the good work, like launching the App, which is good, but I still prefer to use the bigger screen on my desk top, so I hope they don’t just put all their resources in developing he App and neglect the website. In conclusion, IMDB is a great source of information for movie buffs like myself 😄.

There are very few apps that work without glitches, this app hasn’t given me any problems in years. I very rarely watch anything, film or TV without referring to the app. The information I look for is all there. Cast and their individual works, the prognosis is to the point and relevant, information about the filming locations, languages and box office takings is all interesting. I particularly use the cast info to find what other roles they have played in their careers, I might be looking to collect the odd film to keep when I know more about the actors. The film rating is also important to me as I rarely watch anything below a 4.5 for good reasons.. although occasionally I will delve deeper in case other people’s reviews are a little biased. I sometimes think that a review has been written after a movie has been watched on a phone and that is just sad.. Keep up the great work ..
