Quickly create 3D sketches

Description

With Isometrically images are created on a triangular grid. You can quickly create the illusion of 3D by using different shades for sides in different orientations.

It is really easy to use. Just tap to add a point. Tap again. And again. When you tap on the starting point the shape you outlined will be drawn. An Apple Pencil works great for this on iPad, but because it snaps to the grid it also works well on iPhone or without a stylus.

You can drag to move around the canvas. Pinch to zoom in and out. Choose colours by tapping on them. It also offers full layer control (including order and opacity) for advanced sketches.

Images can be exported in easily shareable formats, but also in a vector format which could be used for professional work such as web design or printed out at extremely high quality. It also works great for Icon or logo design (it was of course used for its own Icon, but many other products and companies have Icons which would have been trivial to make with Isometrically).

You can explore the shapes you've drawn in a layer, or make tweaks to an existing shape.

Everything snaps to the triangular grid, keeping things looking correct in the 3D-ish perspective.

A set of tutorials go step by step through how to create 3D-ish objects for those not already familiar with the Isometric drawing/triangular paper idea.

A selection of examples show how with layers and opacity you can create more complicated drawings.

What’s New

Version 6.2

Fix for issue when used with stylus: movement of canvas was too sensitive.

In addition to this you can now choose how sensitive canvas movement is.

Don’t waste your money

This app is terrible. I was looking for something like Hexels but for iPad. This doesn’t even come close. It has none of the tools you would expect of an app like this - no ability to edit points, no select tool to enable you to move what you have drawn. You might be able to change colours of things but the interface is SO badly designed that it’s impossible to figure out how.

The sensitivity with the pen is so bad that when you try to place a point, it quite often thinks you’re trying to move around the canvas instead. I could go on and on, but I think I’ve made my point.

The app clearly has not been tested, has not been made by someone with experience in this, and has not been released at a point where it is ready for use.

Developer Response ,

Apologies, there was a bug when the app is used with a stylus (very small movements should be ignored in terms of canvas). This has now been fixed and an updated release should be out, probably by the time you see this.

The app is primarily designed for touch (or stylus) interaction. Unlike desktop apps it can't assume you will have a mouse, some things that make sense with that won't make sense here. Where touch (or stylus) is shines is that you can quickly select multiple points (a mouse is more precise but slower).

You can select layers and shapes via the side menu; adjusting points and colours from there. You can't currently directly select shapes from the canvas, but without the precision of a mouse, I don't think that would work so well anyway.

I'm afraid this isn't meant to be a Hexels for iPad/IPhone. Hexels is more of retro game art app. And is also something like 15 times more expensive. Isometrically is designed for creating (Isometric) sketches and is ideal for export to the web (with very low file sizes).

Published undeveloped?

A vector drawing application that doesn't allow to edit points?!
looks like a sketch of a good idea published undeveloped.
I think it is dishonest to make users pay for a beta...

Developer Response ,

Version 6.0 overhauls the interface to make some things that weren't so obvious easier (and there is new interface to edit/tweak points in existing shapes). The app is designed specifically for Isometric graphics and for use with a touch screen, so some common things for a vector graphics app make less sense.

I've also added lessons on basic isometric drawing, some example drawings (to show how to use layers, opacity etc).

Easy to use but...

This app is easy to use and gives great results but I. Can’t see how you can delete an individual shape or change its colour once it has been created. Does nor show in the instructions.

Developer Response ,

Version 3.0 (submitted to Apple in December 2018) adds the ability to move layers, delete individual shapes and to change the colours. You can access these advanced editing options by double tapping on a layer (I've tried to keep the core editing experience very streamlined/fast). Thanks for the feedback.

In previous versions you could undo/redo shapes but admittedly that wasn't much good if you had drawn many shapes and wanted to change something on bottom.
