Brilliant but could still get better!

For me, one of the best things about this app is the mouse support. It’s fantastic to use with an iPad.

What I would love next, especially with the usb-c port on the new iPad Pro, is full external monitor support. I was rather disappointed when plugging a second screen in that the device simply mirrored the screen, and I couldn’t even lock my iPad and still use a mouse! I really hope having two monitors is something set to be implemented in the future, it would change the way I could use my iPad.

Developer Response ,

Hi, thanks for the feedback really appreciate you taking the time to review. Jump doesn’t mirror your iPad’s screen on the external monitor - rather it uses all the available space on the external monitor to show the desktop at the external monitor’s resolution. This is a little different from mirroring your iPad’s screen where the external screen would be limited to the iPad’s resolution and would be cluttered with the iPad’s UI. Finally: locking the screen and using the app: I understand your disappointment: unfortunately this is a limitation on iOS at the moment - it will stop the app once the iPad is locked. That being said - this is great feedback, we will keep trying to improve Jump.

Like Luna Display unchained. Brilliant with iPad Pro and Mac Mini

I used to use Luna Display (physical dongle) to allow me to use my iPad Pro (M1) as the primary screen for my Mac Mini. But it's tied to the local network and lately has a recurring connection issue. With an impending trip, I decided to check out alternatives similar to TeamViewer.

The forums recommended Jump Desktop, and wow! It's my new fav app.

Pros:

It works with my Logitech Pebble Bluetooth mouse and Arteck cheap Bluetooth keyboard connected to my iPad. It also works with my Apple Pencil and has a keyboard button to bring up a virtual keyboard, a great backup in a pinch.

It also wakes my computer from sleep which Luna often fails to do.

The lag and speed seem comparable to Luna, which is impressive as Luna is a physical stick.

Cons:

So far the only real niggle was it had a hard time deciding how big the screen was on the normal setting (scrolling page would shift window) but I changed the settings to Locked Screen and set my display resolution to a specified width instead of automatic and it works beautifully.

It is a little less sharp than Luna, reading etc the text is a hair fuzzier, but it's negligible considering it works from anywhere.

Various issues

IT IS SO FRUSTRATING only being able to flip the switch for the “left option/alt” button on the physical keyboard. I use the left alt to alt+tab, I use it to select multiple lines in SQL but flipping it is the only way to get “international” keyboard symbols such as # and €. I need this to be changed to the RIGHT alt/option button which is rarely used.

The UI is a bit frustrating. For example changing resolutions that don’t appear to be supported but they still appear in the slider bar. Things like the switch to turn left+alt to operate for sending symbols such as # and € is a bit hidden. It’s frustrating finding some options here, and other options there. Just feels disjointed.

Depending on what I am doing, I’ll swap between jump, teamviewer and MS Remote Desktop to my machines as each have their issues, problem is the other two are free to use, this is paid for (and very expensive on MacOS!)

For some reason it appears impossible to get sounds from my remote MacBook Pro to play through the fluid protocol to my iPad Pro. Seems to be yet another bug.

The support website is terrible, forcing users to have to enable cookies to register accounts so you can raise issues and suggestions. This should just be built into the app!
