restricted unless you pay subscription!
You always used to be able to see multiple cameras at once. Now they have disabled that feature unless you pay the monthly subscription. I’m no longer getting the product I bought!
If you value your security - think again
Have used and invested in Yi/Kami cameras for about four years. A very good product and until recently reliable. Sadly the business model has now changed from selling cameras to selling subscriptions to their cloud based services which is fine but they have opted to remove features that we have had since day one and move them behind a paywall. Add to this that the apps are now so full of ads and banners it is barely usable! There also a number of red flags, click support in here and it goes to yitechnologies but alas a 404 error, look at their website and most pages dont work and products are no longer available. If you are interested then as of July 28 they are still running their Festive Sale, I do wonder if they even know that they have a website! As of writing we have now had three days of no access to our cameras as it looks like there is an issue with their backend but of course it isn’t being addressed. How a company which states it places your security as its number one priority can take services offline (they also don’t work if you are a paying subscriber) and believe that anyone will continue to take them seriously is beyond me. Looks like we now have some expensive paper weights for our desk! Stick to the brands you know!
Useless update in September 2021
I use several Yi / KAMI cameras and use all of them with SD cards but Yi have now removed some of the features that made the cameras worth buying!
The problems that I have noticed so far are:-
#1 The time index displayed for recordings now only has a resolution of 10 minutes so you have to guess the time of events recorded in-between the 10 minute intervals.
#2 Yi have removed the on-screen clock that was displayed during recording playback so it is now much more difficult to find & replay events that have been recorded.
#3 When I rotate my iPhone, the Yi display no longer automatically switches between portrait and landscape views.
#4 In Landscape view, it is no longer possible to touch the screen to hide the various screen icons so they now block some of the screen.
#5 Face Recognition is no longer accessible using an SD card and now requires a cloud subscription.
A few months ago, I publicly praised Yi, bought extra KAMI cameras and encouraged friends & family to buy them too but now I regret doing it and I will now start to look for another brand to replace Yi.
Therefore, do not but Yi / KAMI cameras to use with an SD card because now they are a lot less useful than they were before the software update which seems to have been introduced to try to encourage users to pay for a cloud subscription.
