Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD 9+

Incredible

This game feels like it fixes a lot of what vengeance didn’t have. The difficulty feels just about right (though I’ve only just beat the second boss on veteran), but will see how I feel once I’ve unlocked the last difficulty option. The animations feel so smooth, which is always a plus, and has always been the direction the franchise has gone in. I’ve purchased both the hero and tower bundle which I will say does feel a little overpriced, despite them apparently being on “sale”. But all the heroes feel unique and have different playstyles. The option to mix and match the heroes feels great as quite a few heroes are able to compliment one another, though I’ve only used one ranged hero alongside a melee hero (right now I’m running to range heroes). Every tower has its pros and cons which show well, which I assume is due to the balancing of physical/magic resistant enemies. I don’t really have any complaints whatsoever other than I feel like the bundles are overpriced and doesn’t seem obtainable to a younger crowd that would play. I really hope DLCs don’t cost too much more on top of the base game, as having brought everything it’s cost me £40+. Don’t get me wrong, the quality of everything is amazing, but I do think prices could be toned down just a little bit. £6.99 for a standalone tower sounds way too much considering the games price. Really looking forward to the rest of the content as well as future updates!

Upon completing the tutorial the game crashed. Every further load of the same save crashes immediately. I love all the games and have just finished vengeance, I just want to be able to play this new instalment!!

* The support team were excellent, got back to me within an hour with a solution to my issue.

Disappointing

Overall a pretty disappointing game. Feels pretty lazy, lacks any unique mechanics and the storyline was especially boring. No book of enemies and their stats was a poor choice too. Overall a much lower quality game than Frontiers and Origins, and less fun than the original three. Wouldn’t be surprised if this was the last kingdom rush, pretty painful to get through at parts and developers seem to be running out of ideas. Keeps the same tower system as vengeance, which although I’m not a fan of, that is personal preference. The towers are all pretty uninspiring, with only two (equally uninspiring) upgrades each, and don’t seem to fill any specific niches. This isn’t helped by tower and hero passives not being included in their description, which only reinforces the feeling that they’re all very similar. Certain parts were relatively fun, but definitely wouldn’t pay £6.99 for it again, especially having to pay ~£35 to unlock all heroes and towers. Maybe DLC will make it more interesting, but at release, the game feels unfinished.
