Life saver

I started knitting a Rowan pattern that I have wanted to knit for ages. It was on a chart - fine - but it was only after I started knitting it that I understood the pattern repeat was not synchronised after the first ten rows. There were six different patterns with five different row repeats: every 5, 6, 12, 14 and 20 rows. How on earth was I going to track these and knit this pattern? Luckily I found KC. I was a bit overwhelmed initially but then found the help page - which is the key. I especially liked the Very Pink tutorials. After a bit of patience and trial & error I was able to get the jumper chart as a pdf and start my first project. I have input linked counters and actions and with my marked chart find it a doddle now to knit my jumper. I genuinely think it would have been too difficult for me without KC. It’s a real game changer and has made knitting for me so much easier and an enjoyable experience again.
My only gripe was uploading the chart. I used the scanner on notes on my iPad to create the pdf from the Rowan magazine page but I would have liked a tool to completely straighten the chart on the screen before converting it. It took me quite a few tries to get a good straight scan that worked and didn’t produce a chart with a wonky highlighted row.

Couldn’t function as a knitter now without KC

I downloaded (and upgraded to the paid version) of KnitCompanion a couple of years ago. I don’t know how I would function without it now. Every single pattern goes on there and I’ve now reached the point where my conversion process to the way I like to knit and set up patterns is really slick. It took me a while to become as adept at using it as I now am, but every second trawling through the pages of the KC guide information was worth it.

That’s not to say it’s without its issues. Along with Pattern Genius there is room for improvement. In particular if you’re beginning a pattern with a WS row as R1 and want to have your row and stitch numbers showing. I know it’s possible to do this, but I’m sure there could be a way for the app to show these, without them having to be part of a chart. A minor gripe, but it bugs me :). Love that improvements to the app are ongoing - including the calculator.

Fantastic App

I love this app as it means I can use charts or written instructions and save where I’m up to- which is very useful when you have several projects on the go at once. It’s super easy to use and I love the fact that it’s very easy to connect to your Ravelry account as well as being able to use it for other patterns. I use this on both my iPhone and my Kindle and I have recommended it to other people. Well worth the cost for the upgrade.
