Great for route planning when touring

I have been looking for a decent way of creating routes on a mobile device with offline maps for some time and this is the best i have found. It is easy to use and adjust on the trail. Planning needs internet access but from that point on everything is offline which is ideal for touring abroad.

We recently used Komoot for an 8-day in Montenegro and it was brilliant. The app found some great little back roads and only once tried to send us down a track that didn’t exist. Other than that, it did everything we asked of it. We used the iphone app for navigating (rather than transferring to a Garmin device) and it was easy to follow directions. The elevation profile was particularly useful while riding. However, it does use a lot of phone battery power to have the screen on for many hours and so i would suggest having a battery pack with you.

Overall I would highly recommend this app and think the full unlocked map version is excellent value. I’m less convinced by the community aspect as it currently stands but for route planning and directions on the road it is fantastic!

Love the functionality and use with Wahoo

I’ve used this app for about half a year now and am loving the different functions. In particular I like the ability to switch between different types of map whether that’s the standard Komoot map (which is one of the most detailed I’ve used), or the open cycle map showing all the cycle lanes around the world. This makes it so easy to plan a ride and stay away from busy roads and onto lanes that are best suited to bikes. I also love being able to see all local attractions on the map. Which means every ride is different and includes something interesting to see and experience. Finally having turn by turn on my Wahoo Element Bolt makes it much easier to use than just following the plotted lines. Also uploading rides and saving to them to the Wahoo is really easy once the two apps are connected. Whether it’s for road cycling, bike touring or mountain biking Komoot is probably the most detailed and easiest to use of any cycling app. I’d highly recommend Komoot to anyone wanting to keep rides interesting and refreshing.

The Dogs B***ocks

I’d been using my smartphone as a sat nav for the ebike I got for my 70th birthday. This was mostly ok but not quite what I wanted so I invested in dedicated cycle GPS unit. I did a bit of online research and Komoot looked like the app I needed for route planning. I’m not interested in statistics as all I wanted was something to plan my route and then transfer that to the unit so was able to disable those options. This it does easily and my Wahoo Elemnt then auto loads the route from its own app. I find the route planning a bit of a pain as I like to pootle about all the little side roads that are mostly traffic free but if you put in a destination and a round trip option I’m presented with a route I don’t want. Once I figured out how to use the waypoint option that seems to sort out the problem.
Overall I’m very pleased with the app and have bought the full package although it’s unlikely I’ll ever cycle outside the UK.
