Two year of excessive use 🤩

I’ve been using this app for around two years now and my experience has been more than positive. I was a die hard Strava user for some years before that but became really tired of the the achievements and stats, for me, cycling and hiking is more about exploring new places and komoot has really helped me do that. The route building is second to none, like most things it takes some trial and error but once you get used with it, it really is that good. I plan all my routes on my desktop for more accuracy and you get an option to change the maps you’re planning on to open street, open cycle and both google roads and satellite, it doesn’t get better than that? If you’re not one for planning out your routes there’s an option to find a tour, you just select the desired activity, how hard you want it to be and even on your desired terrain then komoot will give you options of what’s in your area. Once you have a planned route you have the choice to simply follow on your mobile or a supported device like garmin, wahoo and hammerhead... I’ve used the routes on both garmin and hammerhead with no issues, uploading your activities is seamless as long as you’ve paired them first. Overall this gets five stars from me, my only gripe would be paying for premium, it should be a monthly subscription rather than just one yearly payment, I’m sure they’d get more people on board if they changed this.

Great for route planning when touring

I have been looking for a decent way of creating routes on a mobile device with offline maps for some time and this is the best i have found. It is easy to use and adjust on the trail. Planning needs internet access but from that point on everything is offline which is ideal for touring abroad.

We recently used Komoot for an 8-day in Montenegro and it was brilliant. The app found some great little back roads and only once tried to send us down a track that didn’t exist. Other than that, it did everything we asked of it. We used the iphone app for navigating (rather than transferring to a Garmin device) and it was easy to follow directions. The elevation profile was particularly useful while riding. However, it does use a lot of phone battery power to have the screen on for many hours and so i would suggest having a battery pack with you.

Overall I would highly recommend this app and think the full unlocked map version is excellent value. I’m less convinced by the community aspect as it currently stands but for route planning and directions on the road it is fantastic!

One of the best route planning apps I've found

So far it beats any other app I've found so far. The latest update made it even better. My two major gripes are that even when set to "bike touring" mode it takes me down some pretty extreme roads - too steep to cycle up or down, too rough to cycle on or too sandy to cycle. It makes me wonder if this is what the bike touring mode is like, what's the gravel or mountain biking mode like?
My second gripe is more on the software side. When I want to replan a route mid-tour, I can't update the route I'm already riding on and have to save the adjusted tour as an entirely new tour, meaning I have a new start point (the position I'm in when adjusting). It's a small gripe but a bit annoying when I'm trying to calculate how far I go each day, etc.
Despite that, it's still a really great app. I love how simple it is, how detailed the new maps are and how effective it is. I can download a route, put my phone on flight mode and the battery lasts all day, assuming I keep the screen off as much as possible.
