Description

To be used in conjunction with Land Rover vehicles which are fitted with the next-generation infotainment system, InControl Touch Pro, the Land Rover Route Planner App allows you to navigate from door to door. Before setting out from your home, set your destination from your smartphone and you’ll be directed to your Land Rover as the app detects your vehicle's location. The smartphone app will then automatically sync with your Land Rover's navigation system using the Cloud so your car will be ready to take over navigating soon after you get in. Once you've finished your in-car journey, navigation is then handed back to your smartphone, which provides any final public transport and pedestrian directions to your final destination.

In addition the Route Planner app also allows you to pre-plan trips and holidays by searching for places of interest or restaurants and saving them as favourites from your smartphone. You will then be able to access these saved locations from the in-car navigation system at a later date.

Note:
• Requires InControl Navigation Account to sign-in. Account can be registered from either your Land Rover’s navigation settings or landrover.here.com.
• As we systematically introduce InControl, specific features, options and its availability remain market dependent. This app requires that your vehicle be fitted with its relevant connectivity package as well as a Micro SIM card with a suitable data contract.

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Limited usefulness

Whilst you can search and find many places (as it should) you cannot rename a location to something meaningful once saved as a favourite. You have to use the cars Nav system to edit the name !! Why not in this app?

As with many things InControl, this appears to be designed by engineering teams not actual people who use the system. Don’t JLR do usability testing?

InControl Touch Pro is very good. A huge step up for JLR, but I wish they’d employ someone who understands UI and especially UX. Some simple fixes, features or alterations to this app and the in car systems would make using InControl so much better.

The most ridiculous navigation system

This really is the most ridiculous navigation system I’ve come across. ‘Here’ give you the ability to update their maps for them yet offer no incentives or rewards for your efforts, yet charge a high subscription for the privilege. Moreover, if you receive a notification to update your in-car navigation system, you have to download a massive file, covering the entirety of Europe snd Russia, which takes around 2 -2.5 hours to download and a further 20-30 minutes to install in your car. Why don’t they just give us the option of downloading a specific country or region. This would significantly reduce the downloaded file size and time taken. How many drivers seriously need the entire Euro/Russian landmass available at any one time? And come on ‘Here’, give your users and contributors some recognition for our efforts in keeping your maps updated!

Location usually incorrect

The location of the vehicle in this “Route” App is usually incorrect. It’s often some random point on a previous journey. It’s suggesting my car is currently on the middle of the QE2 Bridge over the Thames. The “Remote” App is correct all the time, so why this app can’t sync is random.
When planning a route, it first suggests I walk to the car (some 30 miles away) to drive to my location.
Even if I get in the car and connect the phone to it, it still directs me to where it thinks the car is.
This should be a perfect app for planning a route before sitting in the car with everyone waiting for you, but it fails every time.
