Beginner

I am a beginner of coding and I think that Mimo is a great app for me , because it helps organising my progress and makes my journey fun by having a leaderboard for competing with others and a shop where you can spend your hard worked currency on to invest in your journey . Well actually this app makes it easy to learn and receive their currency.

By organising my progress it helps me identify where I am and where I need to improve . It also has multiple coding languages and certificates after you complete learning them in case you want to apply for a career in coding !

I am very exited in continuing my journey to its fullest so I can achieve my certificates in order to have a part time job in coding , also I’ve heard that careers in coding give you so much money! In fact mimo has a boot camp to help me get this job , which I am interested in looking in to!

Developer Response ,

Hi there. Thank you so much for the kind words. Our team is thrilled to hear that you are enjoying our courses. Keep up the good work and have a great day!

CUPCAKES.... WHERE?!? ,

Great app, but a tiny bit frustrating…

When I first got Mimo I was a bit worried because most coding apps you had to pay for and didn’t have that money as I was only learning for fun. As soon as I started playing I found each and every moment of it really interesting, but the longer I played, the more I lost hearts due to my right and wrong answers. This didn’t bother me because I just thought that I would get more after this section but I soon realised that I had to wait 3 hours for one more heart. This frustrated me because all of my progress on that level had been reset and I would have to wait and play all over again. Luckily I needed a break anyway from it and I went to bed, eventually my hearts went up back to 5.
All I’m saying in this review is to maybe try and cut the waiting time back a bit because this app is amazing and educational and I don’t want people missing out because of this small issue.

Yours truly.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the review. We’re experimenting with different ways to allow our users to access as much of our content for free as it is possible while still giving benefits to our Pro users, and the hearts are a way to achieve that.

Life / Hearts system is no good currently

This app is good for the most part, however considering the fact that it is to be used for beginners wanting to learn different coding pathways (such as HTML or JavaScript), as a beginner myself I find the whole “lives” situation incredibly frustrating.

Like others have said before, it presents itself like a Duolingo for coding, this is all fine until you see that you can only make 5 mistakes before you have to wait a few hours before you can try again. My issue with this is that there is no way to earn back lives once you’ve lost them. For example, Duolingo has a premium subscription (just like this app does) which grants users the freedom to make as many mistakes as they want. However, the app also offers a “Practice” option which allows free users to practice previously learnt content to earn back a life. This is a good incentive to ensure that users retain their previously learnt knowledge, as well as continue to use the app frequently.

I think this suggestion would bring the review up to 4 or even 5 stars, however for now it remains at a 3 due to the disappointing life system.
(Considering this is a free app for the most part, I’m surprised you haven’t added a way to watch an advertisement in order to earn back a heart, as this wouldn’t be the worst thing as users can only currently wait hours to try again.)

Please improve the life / hearts system!

Thank you.

Developer Response ,

Hi Chen! Thanks for your extensive feedback! We're glad to see you're enjoying our content and that you'd like to keep going without interruptions. We're always searching for new ways to release more free content and the hearts are one of them. For now, having a Pro subscription is the only option to have unlimited hearts, but we're working on additional solutions to provide a smoother learning experience, even for our free users. Happy coding!
