Glad I bought it

£6 is by far the most I've ever spent on an app, but I'm glad I did. It's very polished, professional-looking and colourful and I've learned a number of words and phrases from using it. I find the pictures helps me remember words, and although the games are simple I do keep going back to try and beat my previous score - I find I use this much more than another simpler (albeit cheaper) app. Though at their two very different prices, there's definitely room for both.

I do have a few quibbles, though. Most Welsh-speakers I know, and most books and online resources I've looked at, say 'shwmae', not 'helo', as hello. This isn't a big deal in itself, but it makes you wonder whether there are many other words where they've used an anglicised version over a more traditional Welsh form. Also, I've noticed that on some words, the two voices in the app (one male, one female) sometimes pronounce the same thing slightly differently. Again, not a big problem as words are pronounced slightly differently in different regions - it might even be that one of the voices is speaking South Walian and the other North Walian. It would just be nice to know.

Overall though, I'm very happy and I hope they bring out a new edition with more word categories sometime in the future.

Buy a dictionary instead

This classic edition has only 9 topics, and doesn’t seem to have any way of adding more in the app. If I had known this in advance, I would not have bought it. Disappointed, £7.99 is too much to pay for such little content.

It is ok, but...

The application is ok at what it does, but at 5.99 it is also expensive for what it does. The games are good and help to reinforce the learning, but there are only 9 topics and approximately 40 words in each section - that doesn't seem very many words for the money and there is no option to get new word packs. There is one section on phrases, but unless you are already learning Welsh, it will not be much use because it doesn't help you understand how to put the words into a sentence. At the end, you will be able to say about 40 phrases and a few hundred words. I will find it useful for learning these words, but beyond that, it won't help me with much Welsh at all.
