Ratings and Reviews
Simple and logical to use.
Really like that I can see system updates and update the system in app a great step forward as I can’t remember the last time I used my iMac. Intuitive lay out with everything easy to find, a modern app for the 21st century, good work Linn.
Short lived (but quick response Wow)
Wow, lasted 30 secs before it crashed. Have tried it a few times and had to uninstall each time and then re-install. Same thing each time. Kazoo is far from great but it works. I would like to see the app being able to access all areas of Qobuz but continuing to work flawlessly. Come on Linn, you come up with awesome things like the Klimax and then operate it through 2nd rate software. Really!
Update: 21 Feb 2020
DSM updated and app re- installed. Happy to say it works a treat now. Actually prefer it to the Kazoo version now because it feedbacks what tracks are being played (particularly radio) where Kazoo would fail to do so at times. Prefer the lighter UI to the darker Kazoo and the artist graphics which give a more pleasant interface. Could still be better with additional info etc but for the time being, well done.
Developer Response ,
Sorry to hear your initial interaction with our new app has been poor. We have released an update that has fixed numerous instabilities, it would be helpful if you could try this version and see if your issue has been resolved. If you are still having an issue it would be very helpful if you could contact our help desk and help us to get you up and running.
Not really sure that it adds anything to the user experience
Linn may well have revised the coding to simplify and re-structure, but the user experience has taken a backward step. The old one was perhaps the best out there and while I have Naim kit I prefer the Linn app. Although the 2 apps were very similar the Linn app was closer to my needs based on using both for an extended period-around 2 years.
Just to pick on one but very important element. While the list view may be fine for iPhones, it’s a total waste of the available iPad screen (of any iPad size) - filling 90% of the screen with a block off-white. Rothko inspired I suppose.
This must be an error otherwise a fundamental flaw in design and /or zero vision. While a mixed bag the Lumin app is a long way ahead of every other app in artwork presentation - the user controls the size of the artwork from a list view to multiple artwork on the screen to one artwork item.
There’s so much more that can be readily done to fundamentally increase the user experience, but that’s clearly a long way off or perhaps never. The quality of digital music is in urgent need of a quality companion app.
The iPad revolutionised the use of computers and despite its fantastic screen there are some out there who insist on reducing it to a ‘green on black’ experience.
