Overpriced gougeware...

I've been paying the exhorbitant subscription rate every year since it was introduced - and there has not been a single update to the app that is relevant to me. I grant that the app is good and is fairly bug-free - but it most definitely is not worth the amount of money I have paid the company over the years. Luckily I am only a few years away from retirement so it is not worth my while to switch to something else- but for a young pilot at start of career this software is not a good choice due to the high cost and lack of meaningful development.

In case the developers read this - here is a feature request that I made to you four years ago, and which you replied that it was a really good idea - but has never been implemented. The "Fly Now" feature is hopeless as it is - do you really expect me to press the button to record take off at rotation ? And then press the button again to record touchdown? Why not simply use the devices inbuilt GPS and accelerometers to detect off-blocks, rotation, touchdown and onblocks and log this automatically? This would be a great help and might make me think I am getting some value from the fees I pay you.

Hi Sky_Spy - I do appreciate the effort you went to in writing this review and I am sorry for the confusion and frustration you feel. I’m hoping I can clarify a few things for you. Firstly, you are correct that when we first launched subscription pricing over 3 years ago, we had ‘early adopter’ pricing. This was an effort to give current customers a great deal to move to the subscription pricing. Which, for long time customers, was and still is lower than the average annual cost for the version upgrade revenue model we had prior to this. After a few months, we changed to the more sustainable pricing model we have now. At that time, the Mac was indeed sold ‘for life’ and all who purchased while this was the case have been ‘grandfathered’ in when LogTen Pro for Mac was added to the subscription model.

You also mention that the subscription pricing on Apple is ‘introductory’ and will double after the first year. This is not true, the pricing on the App store reflects current pricing and we have no plans to raise it next year. I cannot guarantee there will be no change to pricing ad infinitum but I don’t think any company would guarantee one price for life.

I can also assure you that this is not an App with ‘no room for improvement’ - to the contrary, we have a full team of engineers continually developing LogTen Pro with a long list of requests for new features and improvements from pilots.

Finally, I’m very surprised to hear that you did not receive a reply from our support team - we are a bit behind at the moment but will always, always reply. I tried to find a discussion relating to your query in our support system but have been unable to find it. Please contact us at help.coradine.com and I’m sure we can help you with your data retrieval. I’d also mention that once transferred to the new LogTen Pro, you are not required to subscribe, you can access all your data and export it for free if you wish to. Your data is most definitely not ‘locked in’ - in fact LogTen gives pilots the most options of any logbook out there for exporting data. But while all suggestions do get submitted and reviewed that does not mean every one gets implemented right away. You stated in your initial review that we're a good app and bug free. There is a reason for that. We are meticulous in the features we implement and as aviators ourselves we understand that they need to work correctly. This is not your morning jog the device is calculating. This is your job application, your regulatory check, your career. Sad to leave, but cannot justify the cost

Having been a loyal 'Founder' user/customer of LogTen for almost 17 years, I can no longer justify the present cost and any future rises in subscription levels - especially given that I paid the one-off fee for the original version of the software all those years ago. The features of LogTen are powerful, the software itself deserves 5 stars, and as others have said, customer service is good when it is needed. But other logbooks offer similar features for a fraction of the price and far more useful connections to airline systems for import of duties. Genuinely sorry to be leaving, but can no longer justify this cost for the features offered.
