Useful info and accurate tracking
The spectators’ guide has very useful info! I read the whole guide before I went there to support my bf. Also the tracking function is convenient for both the runners and their supporters. The runners don’t need to carry their phones when running, and their supporters know approximately when the runners would run past a certain point! Altho the map is a bit confusing (coz it didnt show the restricted areas and which roads were closed... and I’ve spent so much time finding my way to the finish line so as to meet my bf), I’ll still give a 4-star based on the tracking function.
Just not up toThe job
We used this app to track my son in law at the London marathon 2019. Whilst on paper it sounds like a perfect way to track a runner, in reality It was almost impossible to use (possibly due to the sheer number of people and pressure on the 4G system) as the runner’s position was always way behind where they actually were. So if you were using it to decide where you could
Move to, in order to cheer and support your friend, unless you got there very early the runner had actually passed before you got there - but the app would say they had not yet got to it. And then all of a sudden it would jump past it - Making it unusable. Also if you’re in a very heavily populated area like in central London, then the system could not handle it and the map page could
Not load. This appeared to be the same problem for various people using different phones on different networks. After having experienced this, next time I’ll ensure my ’runner’ has a separate GPS locator on them so that we can follow independent of any app...
Good app - sort out your miles and km’s
Great to track runners - usual issues of mass amount of people using it at same time and app taking a while but generally great. Wish the info on it was as good. As a spectator the information was useful
But please use either miles or kms or both at the same time - giving info about where to go and where to watch at mile points then the map only having km’s on it wasn’t very helpful. Would have liked a map that orientated itself rather than having to it - challenging for me as my sense of direction is pants. The plotting of my location was well off. I was about a half a mile away from wherever it thought I was. Generally an improvement - what most people want is a way to track their friends and family and accurate info on how to do it well - focus on this and loose the rest - maybe then it won’t be so clunky to get it to work.
