Description

Take a trip back in time to discover the stories, the people and the resilient
spirit that makes Lowestoft what it is today.

As the most easterly point in the UK, Lowestoft has a rich and fascinating
history. Using the power of augmented reality (AR), you can step back in time
to explore Lowestoft’s heritage in the same area where many of the stories took
place: the Ness.

This historical patch of land – between Whapload Road and the shoreline,
overlooked by Lowestoft’s lighthouse – was an area of great importance
throughout the booming fishing industry of the 19th and 20th centuries. See for
yourself how the herring industry influenced not only the people living in
Lowestoft but the physical town too. Discover the bravery of the lifeboat men
who would risk their lives to save sailors at sea and find out how conflict
through the ages has shaped the town into what it is today. And throughout,
discover the spirit and resilience of the Lowestoft people who weathered
fluctuating fortunes to make the town so unique.

This app covers five key themes in a series of interactive augmented reality
experiences that enable you to discover Lowestoft’s stories for yourself.
Explore each AR scene to find out more about the topics, simply by tapping on
objects in the scene or moving your device closer to the different elements to

see them come to life. Plus, test your knowledge with a fun quiz to unlock the
app’s content and use it at home.

Featuring videos, animations, audioscapes, archive imagery and more, the
Lowestoft Ness AR app provides a comprehensive and fascinating insight into
Lowestoft’s heritage, its heroes and its future – making it the ideal companion
for visitors and residents of all ages.

To ensure you have the best experience and avoid any connectivity or data
limit issues, we recommend you open the app and download its content over
