Description

Sketch fast with MANIKIN a 3D posing tool containing a collection of models and tools aimed to help professional artists and amateurs alike in drawing anatomically correct figures with respect to light & perspective.

Create scenes with multiple characters or manipulate simple 3D shapes to quickly visualize the outlines of your sketches, generate storyboards with screenshots or frame your comic book illustrations and mangas.

ARTISTS MANNEQUIN
The mannequin was born out of the need for an interactive human anatomy reference to tackle problems like foreshortening, proportion and depth.

We expand upon the wooden mannequin for figure drawing with various 3D models and tools to help you with shape recognition, shading, perspective and stance.

POSE FAST
Moving things in 3D often involves a lot of interaction for even the simplest of goals. This is why we wanted posing to be as intuitive and simple as possible with a bare minimum in menu diving and without losing complexity.

A straightforward and intuitive design keeps all functionality close without drowning you in options.

Our goal is to let you spend more time drawing and less time preparing.

APPLY ANIMATIONS
Even for the most hardened artists it’s not easy to imagine how the body moves. In MANIKIN all animations can be viewed in detail. Use them to get faster to your desired stance or as use them as a figure study for motion.

CAMERA & LIGHT
We also give full control over camera & light. Use 360 mode to work and use "point of view mode" to get the exact camera angle you had in mind.

To ease your shading needs you have up to 4 fully adjustable lights at your disposal to create dynamic drop shadows and realistic depth.

SCREENSHOTS FOR DIGITAL PAINTERS
MANIKIN also features cutout screenshots so you can immediately use them in Photoshop, Coreldraw, Procreate, Paper or whatever digital drawing software you use. No more hassle with editing screenshots.

My secret weapon for improving my art

I have cycled through plenty of posing apps and find I favour this one of all and use it frequently as part of reference process for my work. I’m a beginner so it’s helping me gain confidence in a challenging area. There are endless possibilities for poses/angles/lighting with this app and it is easy for me to translate poses into 2D space using the wireframe tools.

The extra animations are well worth the buy too. There are loads of them and so easy to use. Almost missed them (after a poor experience buying something that cost a fair bit more and delivered far less) but wouldn’t be without them now since I can’t seem to pose the model into a realistic looking position on my own. Think there should be one or 2 freebies to give a feel for how they work.

Thank you very much for the positive review and taking the time to write this up! For your advice on the animation freebies, the first animation of every category is free but maybe we have not made this clear enough. If you’re up for it send the support so we can talk a bit more. Thanks again for the review and very happy to hear your enthousiasm!

I don’t really like it as much...

So I just got this app and at first when I tried to move the character it would just show the peace of body and it was like one of the parts I didn’t need or want and for some reason there is NO TOES OR FINGERS 😂 Yeah still you need to add some presets and if there are presets please show us and maybe add toes and fingers 👍

Developer Response ,

Hi Vampire Wolf,

Thank you very much for writing up your review. The first part of your review I didn’t really understand but the presets are found when you select the model (currently in the top menu) or alternatively you can use animations as a starting point ( also top menu) This model doesn’t have functional hands or feet because it is a copy of the artists mannequin but we are working on more complex models.

Yet another generic pose app

So many of these have started to flood through, and I’ve tried loads of them. From websites to apps, they’re all identical in core function: helping you draw. But what all of these developers seem to fail to notice is that 2d artists such as myself can’t work with a 3D model. It’s all well and good until you actually need to draw a dynamic pose in 2d. Because drawing people is not 3d until you get to shading, it is flat and therefore giving a 3D model to an artist, who then has to convert it to 2d and back to 3d on paper or a screen just doesn’t help. Comic artists work with minimal shading most of the time, and a 2d style app would be much better for those of us using our pictures and mannequins as actual bases for our drawings

Developer Response ,

Hi Emo knightmare,

There is an option in the top menu to work without depth ( outline & flat ) A 2D screen is by definition a translation to a 2D plane so all we can do give the option to disable shading and accentuate the outline. And while you might not need a 3D reference others do. Which is why we included both as options because beyond preference, moving around in an unshaded 3D space is more confusing.

And considering the 2D translation, the app is not meant to create the drawing for you. The idea is to create a reference that you can hold on to when you imagine a human body otherwise it would be a comic art generator.

We welcome all reviews good and bad because we can use those to make the app better but this space is reserved for exactly that. We have worked long and hard on this application from when there were no solutions besides Daz, poser and a simple mobile mannequin. And while I can appreciate your opinion on the current state of posing apps I fail to see why you feel the need to post it here as a review at our expense. Especially without even trying the app long enough to discover we offer what you want.
