I‘m on the 12 meal plan, which I think is the minimum, and it’s too much for me. I sometimes travel or work from home, and sometimes have lunch meetings or just want to eat in the office, which has resulted in me losing a few meals a few times. They don’t roll over, which is a disgrace, and something they should change. Haven’t cancelled yet, but will do if I continue losing meals every month.What I love is that the app makes me get out of the office and try new places. Recommended options close to the office can get very repetitive, so there should be an option to only view restaurants/meals you haven’t tried before. Also, the app should by default hide meals you‘ve rated poorly in the past, as they just clutter the page - otherwise what’s the point of rating?

I haven’t use mealpal for a while, when opened the app recently, I saw there are meal options that I can order at a discount without having a monthly subscription, then I tried to order one. Big mistake! Now it says I will be charged 4.99 per month since Dec. Why it didn’t tell me anything like this before I placed the order?!Then I tried to cancel the subscription immediately, there’s no way I can cancel from the app. Then I logged into mealpal from the website, there’s still no way you can cancel! I tried to remove my credit card from mealpal, but again it’s not possible, I tried to email mealpal to cancel the subscription, now they didn’t respond to my email! I guess the last thing I can do is call my credit card company to block them.It looks mealpal is getting more abd more desperate to take money from customers, spamming emails about offers that not applicable to existing customers, and meal providers are leaving this app one by one. This app is full of traps that I can’t manage to avoid all even if I knew I had to be extra cautious, won’t use anymore.

This screams FRAUD to me. Just recieved an email, saying there had been a ‘glitch’ on the system and that I had not been charged a monthly membership fee of £4.99. The glitch is fixed now, I was reassured, and they won’t charge me historically, wow thank u, but my membership cycle will start on the 2nd of November, which is 2 DAYS from today. I have used Meal Pal ONCE months ago and then deleted the app, and obviously I don’t want to pay any fee. So I redownload it, to cancel my membership that I NEVER ASKED FOR to start with, and OH! apparently I can only cancel a membership on the DESKTOP on Meal Pal website?! Not even on the mobile version – although FAMOUSLY Meal Pal is a mobile app. Feeling gradually more frustrated, I go online on my DESKTOP and SURPRISE I can’t cancel the membership here EITHER, I need to send an email! AND I’m supposed to do this AT LEAST 2 BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE the new ‘membership cycle’ begins, meaning that even if I cancel NOW, I can still be charged?! Such a dark pattern and an absolute scam.

The good: MealPal is a great way to discover local food places that you might not try otherwise. I’ve had no issues with the quality or portion size. The bad: restaurants can be hard to find. MealPal doesn’t have their exact addresses and plots them in the wrong place. The terrible: MealPal seem to be trying their best to give the impression of being a dishonest company. Masses of spammy refer-your-friends emails, inconsistent offers, a website that doesn’t show you anything about them until you relinquish your email address, and the age-old “we hope you forget to cancel” rolling subscription. I’m actually happy with the pricing but still feel like I might be ripped off if I’m not careful. Awful business model.
