Meet People IRL - Locals.org 17+

Good things: most importantly, quality of people I’ve met so far has been high. Profiles help judge who can come to your event. Requiring a charitable donation stops people from flaking. Found out a lot of places I wouldn’t have known about without Locals.

What I’d like to see in the next version: require a minimum charitable donation (you can say this now but people apply to join your event with no donation anyway). In-app sharing of pictures after the event. The ability to go straight to the chat from the event page if you’re running an event (instead of managing applicants).

Helping charities is at the core of every action on Locals so we are thinking about ways to make this easier and better to keep driving those donations to allow everyone to have fun and do good. I really like the idea of meeting new people via common interests and supporting charities along the way. The first event I went to was great and I enjoyed the experience. However, since then I’ve had 3 events where the organiser either went MIA or was very bad with communication and left things until last minute, so as a result these events didn’t go ahead, even though my donations were accepted. I, of course, don’t mind donating but I’d prefer to send money to charities of my choice if the events don’t actually take place. The app developers should think about putting some safeguards in place, or at least prompts, to discourage the organisers from being flaky. E.g. if they don’t end up organising the in-person event that could incur some penalties or the donation amount reduces. Otherwise, I don’t see how else you can stop people from being unreliable.

Unfortunately, if your request has been accepted by the host, we have already processed your donation and sent it to the charity. You can try to not miss out on what you paid for by speaking to the host and checking if they have any flexibility. I believe you could also join them some next time on another occasion. It’s a really good app. It’s better than Meetup in my opinion, and you can easily find likeminded people. The only improvements I would make is the app can be a bit slow at times & takes long to load. A suggestion of mine coming from personal experience of being a woman on networking platforms - maybe stress or emphasise that this app is for networking and building relationships, not so much dating? Or if dating is involved in this app (I’m not sure) perhaps have the option to say interested for dating or not, just to save unwanted and awkward interactions

I’ve been experiencing people not selecting me for events with no explanation why. It makes me feel worser off than not being on the app. It would help if the host could at least give you an explanation as to why they don’t want you in the group. Makes you feel unwanted.
