Mimeo Photos 4+

Each December I make a Family Calendar for the home and for other family members. This year I ordered 3 copies. I for my son who is normally in London working and one for my daughter who is in Toronto working. The pictures are mainly mine, but also with contributions from other family members. They include holidays, events, and birthdays, which on that day we add a photo of the birthday person on that specific date. Comments are now included on various photos of "a new car", visiting "Niagara Falls", working with "Sloths in Costa Rica" etc, etc. Rugby & other main interest Sporting events are added to the various months they are occurring.
The Calendar has pride of place in our Kitchen/ Conservatory. We all continue to add to it during the year, making it a live, living piece of family life. No matter which part of the world a copy is hanging up on a wall the calendar jogging the memories of happy events of the past year. It keeps the family in touch, particularly this year, with global events being challenging. I hope it brings a smile for happier times ahead for all of us.

For the past 6 years I have made an annual Photo Book. In earlier years I used the programme in my iMac which was easy and the product was great. However, Apple stopped producing Photo Books and I was looking for a replacement. Last year I used an online site but was not happy with the result. This year a neighbour of mine who works for Apple sent me a link with led me to Mimeo. I downloaded the App and started compiling my Photo Book. I am thrilled with the result, the quality is great and it is precisely the same size and format that came from Apple. I was particulary pleased with the type and size of the descriptions I wrote - I used 12pt and it was large enough, but does not dominate the pictures. I started by making the album on Photos and then used that to provide the photos I select from and it works well. I found the App easy to use even on my MacBook Pro which does not have a large screen. However, I was able to get the right size and was very pleased when it arrived and I could examine the finished product. With all my pics in my computer, it is a great idea and discipline to make a book every year as I now have a permenant record of my life and that of my family. I have also made Photo Books for special events. It is a bit of a discipline to do the work but well worth it. My lockdown project completed.

This is not at all user friendly. It took me about an hour to select and arrange the photos and then at least 20 hours to fight with the program to try to work out which photos it had randomly decided to refuse to recognise each time I tried to load them. Previously when this ran straight from apple photos it was an easy process.
I have made one of these photo books every year for about 8 years and it has never been this difficult. Why has the upgrade made this so much worse? I eventually got the selection accepted after being forced to unnecessarily delete multiple photos for no apparent reason. It would only tell me which photos the program had decided to reject after I reuploaded the entire photo collection which took about fifteen minutes every time. I would then have to close the entire program, delete whichever photos it didn’t like and spend another 15 minutes uploading them all again to find another selection of random photos which had been rejected.
Postage is also extremely expensive and you are not informed about the cost of this until checkout. By that time I had wasted so much time making this photo book I felt had no choice except to pay the ridiculous amount of money.
I will be trying to find another way to do this next year. I do not intend to use Mimeo again.
Customer services did respond quickly and tried to solve the problem but were unable to speed up the process which was very time consuming
