Description
With this app and with Mio, the Robot, you can discover robotics and coding!
Mio, the Robot is the perfect tool to introduce you to the world of robotics and programming in an easy and fun way.
Thanks to the microphone, infrared sensors and lots of challenging play activities, this robot will turn into your inseparable friend.
The app will allow you to play with the robot in two different ways:
- REAL TIME
In this section, you can command the robot in real time as if you were using a remote control. Mio, the Robot will faithfully execute all your commands (movements, sounds, light effects).
- CODING
In this area, you can arrange commands in sequence, creating actual programming strings and even add conditions. This will help you to train your logical abilities and problem-solving skills.
The app’s graphics are designed for being user friendly and for being used without any difficulty and intuitively by children older than 8 years.
The app communicates with the robot thanks to high-frequency sounds which are associated with commands. Being scarcely audible, the communication will appear to be magical!
Thanks to the microphone, the robot can hear these types of sounds, decode them without any difficulty, and then execute the corresponding commands.

I started thinking this was a load of rubbish when the app didn’t work
You must turn your phone on loud and turn the in-app sound off (top right) - then, hey presto...BUT!!!!
The inability to turn left or right without it spinning completely around (without touching forward or back at precisely the right time) is slightly annoying on the app based play.
Yet to try the programming side of it, but again can’t imagine it would be hard to understand given the robot can just simply turn left or right, again without the mentioned complication above.
Great little robot though! Basic improvements would change these issues so please take note of the feedback.
Make sure you connect the cables the right way.
Like others, we had issues with the app not connecting to the robot. I searched everywhere and couldn’t find any way of resolving the issue, so was on the verge of sending the robot back for a refund.
We worked out the microphone on the robot wasn’t working - clap mod wasn’t responding when we tried it.
There’s 2 small cables for the microphone and led eyes that come out of the head, both are the same colour. On our robot we had plugged these in on the back the wrong way round.
Once we swapped them over, the robot worked with the app and clap mod starting working too.
So for anyone struggling with the app not working, try swapping these 2 cables over.
One happy child, loves the robot, loves the programming aspect although it is slow to respond.
Gave it 4 starts because of the issues we had and lack of troubleshooting for such a simple fix.
Mio Robot
App works well, didn’t work at first, because phone was in silent mode, which I didn’t realise. You need to hold down on the direction you want to go, it takes a couple of seconds to register. If you keep tapping it, it want work. Keep finger or thump on the screen for it to work 👌
