Description
MixTape is a simple, beautiful and easy to learn application for making beat matched mixes.
By simply drag dropping the music you already have in iTunes (or from the finder), MixTape adds detected tempo and beats. Tracks are then dragged onto a workspace where they now "snap to grid" along their beats and play in sync. Precisely in sync. The live UI means you can always hear what's underneath the playhead as if it were recorded on magnetic tape and waveform images mean you can see the music in front of you. Finally automated volume and HiLo controls add that all important final polish to your creations.
Mixes can then be exported at a configurable bitrate back into iTunes to play on your Mac, iPod or iPhone; or exported losslessly.
You can even compose your mixes live - simply cue up your first track, start the live stream then continue to use your headphones to mix as usual. The live stream will also emit midi so lighting or VJ rigs can be kept in sync with the music as it is played.
Far simpler than either an audio workstation or a DJ app, MixTape embraces the Mac aesthetic to blend in perfectly with your desktop. Finally a short series of video tutorials emphasise 'show' over 'tell' to show what can be done and how.
Used by DJ's, gym instructors and just ordinary people... we mix our own music and you can too.

What went so badly wrong
What I had a year ago when I purchased this app, was something that worked really well and allowed me to create some really fun mixes. I especially liked the option to drag and drop songs directly from iTunes. What we have now since the recent update is software which no longer functions at all. Very annoyed, I really don’t know what has happened but the software I loved and used often has gone.
An expensive product to start with which is now unusable.
Fix It!
Been using MixTape for a number of years with only minor problems and have always loved it. But, unfortunately the latest version is bug ridden! Things like controlling volume is now really impossible. Where are contol points now? They are invisible! Also, there is no longer a cross for closing the properties window. To add insult to injury it keeps crashing all the time. To be honest this is more like a poor beta copy, than a finished product. I alway liked the app, so please Atomic Droplet, sort this out ASAP.
On-line documentation off-line
I’ve used the program on and off for a while and have been happy with it. Recently I wanted to try something more complex, but all the on-line documentation is off-line rendering the program useless.
