Nowhere near as good as the Classic version yet
This new version of Money Dashboard feels very much like a beta version. For me, it’s slow to refresh (taking up to a minute to refresh accounts) wherever I am and whatever wifi/network I’m using, and even then gives me wrong amounts in my accounts. Classic on the other hand is near instant, and penny accurate. Both these issues reported to Money Dashboard who tell me they’re referring these issues to developers.
Otherwise, no where near as feature rich as Classic which I still continue to use.
I’m not sure about the slick new interface either. Personally I much prefer the Classic look and feel. Neon feels hamstrung by comparison. Classic is almost forensic if used to it’s fullest extent, Neon feels like a paper statement a month in arrears by comparison.
I get that “features are being added all the time”, but surely they should be added before a full release. I just can’t get on with or recommend Neon yet.

Hello. Thanks for taking the time to send this feedback. Next week we'll be removing account refresh when you login and we'll start refreshing this in the background for you. Are there any specific Classic features you're missing on Neon?
Basic and unreliable
I wouldn’t trust this app to tell me the current time of day let use it to make money management decisions. Scheduled transaction prediction figure seems to change every time I log in, even if only seconds apart. Linked to a random number generator perhaps. No clue where predicted balance comes from as no transparency on how the figure is calculated so you don’t know if it has missed out anything. Seems to guess your month’s spending for next month based on past month’s credit card spending, but often this includes one-off transactions like holidays or major purchases so not a fair predictor of future regular spending, yet no way to ignore these. Auto categorisation is way off. No iPad app. Only works in portrait mode. Many accounts not supported. Clunky interface. You cannot edit either the description or add a note to make the transaction more easily identifiable. Cannot add own category tags and basic set provided doesn’t cover many types of transactions. Simplistic app doesn’t reflect complexity of most people’s finances like refunds, paying for things for other people and so on. Features from original app now removed. Not able to bring across history from previous app but have to start all over again with a new one. Crashes every time I add a new bank account. Scheduled transactions listed twice. Just useless for the purpose intended.

Hello PanAmClipper. Thanks for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review. Firstly, just to make sure you're aware, there is no obligation for existing users of Money Dashboard to move over to Neon. So if there are features on our Classic version that you are missing, you can continue to use it. Neon is a work in progress and we have it on our roadmap to add a lot of the functionality you mention; first up is custom categories being released this week. If you do intend on continuing to use Neon, please bear with us as we deliver new features every week. Thanks
Having been a long time user of moneydashboard until lack of certain features and general bugginess drive me to other providers, I was intrigued to see that there’s a new app - and hopeful that some basics were now covered.
The tech quality is impressive. Linking accounts is very sound, but as before, it’s lack of basic features that really disappoints me. 2 years ago I asked whether it would be possible to implement other options for pay cycles (eg 4 weekly) rather than having to manually move the pay date every month. I received a notification that they’d consider it - hence the short lived hope that they’d have implemented it as a basic element of the new app.
The thing was that on the old app, you could work around it and it didn’t matter if it upset the prediction, because you could use the incredibly useful planner to get a rough estimate of what you’d have left on payday. Since neon doesn’t have anything like that and instead focuses on the predicted balance element, it’s completely useless to those of us have to budget four-weekly.

Hello. Thanks for the feedback.
More flexible paycycle frequencies are definitely on the Neon agenda. We're starting to discuss this implementation internally and development should start in the coming weeks, I can't give precise delivery timelines for this yet.
In the more immediate future, we're launching a new feature on the mobile app next week called spending plan. This incorporates some elements of planner alongside your budget settings, hopefully this meets your needs. Spending plan is currently live on the Neon website if you want to take a look
