MoneyWell is a personal finance package built around the concept of envelope budgeting. It's designed to keep you from overspending by using proactive budgeting techniques. It also helps you direct your extra money to debt reduction and savings so you end up with a nice cash buffer for emergencies and a more stress-free life. You can download it for free, look at a sample budget or try setting up your own. There's no time limit and it's fully featured except you can only create 200 transactions in "Free mode". If you like what you see, there's a subscription which unlocks unlimited transactions. We'll never remove access to your data, so even if your subscription expires and you return to "Free mode", you'll still be able to view and export your data. Too many other financial tools rely on end of the month budget reports to keep your spending in line, but by that time it's too late to fix anything. We call this regret-based budgeting, where you print reports and then regret not sticking to your plan. It's a broken system that most people can't use. With MoneyWell, there's one simple rule: Spend only what you have in your buckets. MoneyWell will help you by allowing you to create a spending plan and then telling you how much you need to save in each bucket category to meet your goals. The app does everything I want from a home budgeting tool. The "envelope" system (buckets in MoneywWll terms) is the way I prefer to budget, and this is also how MoneyWell works. I have been running my budgets for years using MoneyWell but have held back on upgrading to this latest version until now. MoneyWell now supports sync to the iCloud and importantly allows you to sync between two different iCloud accounts. With the addition of the support for Family Sharing, this allows partners to both contribute to entering transactions to the same budget. This is a must have in my view. Another must have which now is also possible due to sync to iCloud working, is that the iPhone companion app MoneyWell Express also works seamlessly across iCloud accounts. It is used to enter transactions (not set up and manage the budget). It is perfect for entering transactions when out-and-about so that they are immediately reflected in the budget for all to see. This is one of the few applications I can say I pay for with a smile on my face.
