"I highly recommend it for all kids, whether or not they want to get into programming. The kind of thinking required to solve the tasks in the app is important for everyone to learn, for every field of study."
-- Wired.com / Geek Dad

"Are you a computer geek that loves programming or are you a classroom teacher instructing on such skills as angles, measurement and two dimensional geometry? If you answered yes to either these, then you have come to the right educational app"
-- IEAR.org

"I spent my formative tech-years trundling a robo-turtle around the floor while learning the Logo programming language. Now there's an app for that, although in this case the turtle is virtual"
-- The Guardian

*** Move the Turtle teaches children (ages 5+) the basics of programming (yes, we do mean coding!)
*** Challenges and rewards keep children (with parents' assistance) & teenagers (on their own) engaged!

-----------------------------------

Do you remember the Logo programming language? A friendly Turtle will introduce your child step by step to the basic concepts of programming in a colourful graphic environment. Who knows, maybe your child will be the next outstanding programmer!
By completing the tasks, one after another, your child learns:
*** how to plan complex activities composed of simple elements
*** how to reuse previously completed work
*** how to use graphics, spatial orientation and sound in programming

Your child will also become familiar with the notions of loops, procedures, variables and conditional instructions.

Programming is about more than completing tasks, it is also about implementing your own ideas using your imagination. With this in mind we give you the opportunity to create your own programs from scratch or based on our inspiring examples.

Should be the perfect learning tool

Like others, I was looking for the beauty of Turtle Graphics (without the bulk of Logo) and this looked like it. I so much wanted this to be a 5* application, but it is unfortunately far from that. The tutorials are very good, but exceptionally linear. If you don’t do exactly what the instructions tell you, it will not work. Worse; the instructions don’t tell you enough to complete the tasks and there is no indication of where you went wrong. The faults are many (the turtle doesn’t do what it’s told!) but it does look good. This will all cause disappointment for children and put them off learning a very useful life-skill. It’s a great shame as It would take so little effort to correct these faults. However, ’support’ are dismissive to the point that I was told I didn’t follow their instructions and therefore there wasn’t an issue with their software - if they actually listened, and played with their own creation, they could easily correct these errors.

Wonderful

For quite some time I have been looking for a way to teach my 7 year old the basics of programming since he has shown a interest in computers.
This app is simple to use, very intuitive and a perfect example of the ways that the iDevices can be used for educational purposes beyond reading, writing and arithmetic.
My son loves it and doesn't even feel as though he is learning but simply playing a game. The fact that it gives you problems to solve rather than simply giving you the ability to free move (although this option is also available) makes it a great learning tool.
In fact I have played it just as much as he has!
I am thrilled to have found this app and congratulate the developers on a well thought out adaption of a firm favourite from my childhood, which I am pleased to be able to share with my son.

Excellent!

This is a great app for learning the basics of programming. For 8 year +. My only bugbear is that the "play" section is just a series of challenges that require the player to learn a new command for each. Better would have been to include a couple of puzzle levels after each new command is mastered - for consolidation and repetition. As it stands the complexity ratchets up rather fast for a 8 yo.
To the developers - come on you could do this easily ! Or perhaps a website to outline challenges and solutions ?
Otherwise this is really an excellent app.
