Tried it twice

I really wanted this app to work for me but it is a waste of time until they implement the big upgrade they’re mentioning. As it is, the app is a bit amateur, as it’s really easy to lose where you were working and have to start again. I can deal with the slightly slow or laggy response and lack of detail, but completely losing the precise projection is too much.

Good idea, not well executed

I’m short, don’t waste your time. I was 30 minutes into a complex drawing outline and the app crashed multiple times, luckily the photo was in the same spot when I re loaded, (You have to pay to have this feature though, the free one only gives you 10 minutes) Then mid way through (this was when I eventually gave up) I noticed the image (despite being locked) had moved. Because of the design having no ‘back’ button, this meant it was near impossible to move the image back to the exact same spot. Glad I only got the free trail. To note it is also a very slow process to draw from looking at the projected image on your tablet, versus drawing whilst looking at the canvas. Far easier to use a digital projector (cheaper than the apps yearly subscription fee) or other more traditional methods!

Oh no! I'm sorry you had a poor experience with the app. It would be great if you could shoot me an email info@davincieyeapp.com and let me know what devices you were using / what type of connection you had where the app was crashing. We're releasing a stability update in the next few days that should solve crashing issues on particular devices. Also, I believe the annual cost of the app should be at least 2 to 3 times cheaper than the cheapest projector you can find on Amazon. The way the app works, it gives you a different drawing experience than a projector, which has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. For example you can draw outdoors, you don't have to draw in the dark, you can compare colors, etc. The undo button is something we'll add in for sure! Its still a new app so feedback like this is greatly appreciated.

Rubbish

You only get 10 minutes to draw before you get locked out and the told you have to upgrade to the pro version. Moronic idea because by the time you set your drawing up, 5 minutes have elapsed leaving you only 5minutes to draw making it a waste of your time. It does offer a one week free trial, but the features are so limited it made me wonder why they charge a £4.99 per month fee to access it. The feature list is very poor making the monthly fee questionable to say the least.

In the limited time I used it, it nagged and popped up, frequently dropped connection with the other device it still keeps counting down.

When you consider camera lucida is a one time payment and you can do big drawings using a workaround, it saves you a £4.99 fee.

Hi There I'm sorry you had a poor experience with the app! I would love it if you sent me an email and I can help sort things out for you. 
There isn't a 10 minute limit on the app, it is just on the drawing session. You can start as many drawing sessions as you like. Considering the price of other art supplies, the cost of a physical projector, the work you are able to produce with the app, and the incredible level of support that you get with the app the $4.99 price we believe is not very high. 
The app is very different than CL and the original Da Vinci Eye: AR Art projector (half the price of CL and way more robust), those apps let you make smaller artwork even with things like Airplay and HDMI cables it does not allow for the flexibility that this app provides. This app is specifically designed to make HUGE artwork, murals, and even work outdoors.
The app's connection depends on the devices you use and your internet connection, this is why we have the trial to make sure it will work for you, and the in depth video showing how to set it up so there is little to no lag. A proper setup like in the video is also key to having it work right. 
Also, the app does have an incredible amount of features that are available during the trial or when you upgrade, perhaps that is why you did not see them? The ability to break down images into layers (Notan), record time lapses, apply visual filters for image analysis before and while you are painting, the comparator mirror mode aka strobe feature.
