My China Taxi - China Taxi App 4+

We used this app during our whole stay in China. We don’t speak/read any Chinese and couldn’t use any of the local payment methods such as WeChat. They were really helpful and provided excellent customer service. My friend left his phone in the car one night; they contacted the driver for us and he drove back all the way to bring my friend’s phone back, not even asking for money. We organised transfer to the airport with them, they are the ones who informed us that our flight had been cancelled, and rearranging airport transfers subsequently was no trouble at all. I would definitely recommend using MyChinaTaxi. It is of course slightly more expensive (but still reasonable) than using the local apps like Didi but definitely worth it.

A China story. I couldn’t download Didi’s English version while in China. Not on wifi not on VPN not on 4g. I could get to the App store but when I searched Didi English it gave me My China Taxi. I resisted it for two days but then went for it: reviews differ widely, some found it useless some found it great. It has worked for me in Beijing two out of three times. The fail was when I was in some kind of private industrial estate but if the guy had driven up to the barrier it would have raised. App told me car had arrived: car had not. So I had to walk 190m then it was telling me to walk 620m then I got cross then the guy cancelled the ride. Saving grace was customer support who were really good and got me another car. But I still had it saying ‘car has arrived’ when it was nowhere in sight. The support lady was getting me to send pictures of where I was... I’d sent my location twice. Why is there a fail? We’re all on the same network aren’t we? It knows where I am? EspeciAlly after I’ve sent the location.
So I’d say, mixed. Like a lot of other internet stuff in China you can probably only download the Didi English from outside China. HaVe to compare, but the verdict here is: good when it’s working, frustrating when it’s not. It took me an hour to get a cab.

Used MyChinaTaxi loads in China, it’s never let me down, due to the language barrier in China it’s good to be able to type in English your pick-up/drop-off locations. Although flagging a normal taxi down is cheaper, you can’t communicate with them in English. If you need any details the chat function on the app is brilliant. Customer support is really good, they respond within minutes if there are any issues. Cancelling taxis is also very quick and easy. Highly recommend.
