Great when it works, but too often it doesn't

This is a really useful app - it saves time as you can set up your order on the way to the restaurant, and usually the ordering process is smooth.

Unfortunately there's too many times it doesn't work. Sometimes it just won't recognise when you're at the restaurant. Staff aren't well trained with the app process so they're completely unable to help with any errors, despite error messages directing you to talk to restaurant staff.

The worst thing though is the in-app support team. I've contacted them a few times, sometimes with issues, sometimes with little bugs I've seen that I thought they might want to know about. Every time they've replied with a stock response that has no relation to what I emailed about and suggests they haven't properly read the initial email. Given how often issues are occurring, the quality of support is a big problem at the moment.

I hope the development team spend some more time on testing the whole ordering process, particularly what happens when things go wrong in the real world. If they can clear up the little issues so things work 99% of the time, and so I never have to contact their app support team, this will be a 5 star app.

Charged three times, had to leave drive thru to go instore

Ordered using app for the first time, appeared to go through fine. Arrived at McDonalds & app couldn’t tell we were there, using either full strength 4G or their own WiFi. Tried drive thru who couldn’t access order & sent us inside. Queued for ages while retrying the app which connected and let me pay just as I reached the front of the queue, then gave an error. Showed app to staff member and was required to pay for order again at the till. Ordered was prepared by three people who seemed utterly confused and it was brought out on trays without bags or cup holders, because it had been marked as an instore order (even though I had requested take out). Got it bagged up & took it to the car, food was cold by the time we ate it. Checked my credit card app and have 4 pending payments for the order, one for zero but three separate transactions for the full amount. Staff member said the app ordering has been problematic since it was installed, and they’ve only had one day of it working. Great idea but very poorly executed, won’t bother using it again unless reviews improve. McDonalds should pull the ordering functionality from the app until it works consistently.

Utterly pointless

The pre-order does not allow you to collect via drive-thru, a feature which has been “coming soon” for the past 12 months I have had the app. This means that you have to go in to collect the order which has its own issues. Firstly, on numerous occasions it has failed to acknowledge that I was on the premises, requiring several refreshes before it will let you confirm the order. Then you have to pay and await confirmation. Meanwhile, an army of people have came in, ordered on the screens or at the till, paid via contactless (the app doesn’t even support Apple Pay) and received their food, whilst you are still wrestling with the app! Then you wait, and wait, and wait, as they only prepare the food once the order is confirmed - what is the point of pre-ordering???? And despite selecting “order to go”, you still get the order handed to you on a tray. And when you advise that it is a “to go” order, you then get the teenage huff from staff that you are being a nuisance to them.
