Ratings and Reviews
Don’t even think about Vodacom SA
If you’re a tourist planning a trip to South Africa you should know this. The WiFi internet runs at about 0.4 megs, the 4G mobile service (in towns) runs at an almost workable 14.0 megs. That’s the end of the good news. Vodacom see tourists as people to be ripped off, badly! The locals pay R329 (£20 UK) for 40 megs of data (20 anytime 20 at night). You as a tourist will be paying R4000 (£240 UK) for the same quantity of data.
Worse you can’t buy it online, you have to hunt round for a Vodacom shop and take your phone there.
As the WiFi system in SA effectively doesn’t exist (0.4 megs) you’ll have no choice but to pay this money.
Vodacom effectively blackmailing tourists into paying twelves times what the locals pay is a disgrace. Suffice to say it’s my last trip to South Africa.
Had a bad experience of mis-selling:
Was sold 100 minutes calls at Johannesburg airport. The person selling the sim for R499 (about £27 at the time) failed to mention that it is for calls to Vodacom numbers only, which rendered it almost useless.
Was also sold 5Gb internet connection, but the person failed to mention that half of it is between the unsociable hours of 00:00 to 05:00.
I believe it was Mis-selling because I was not given enough information to make an informed decision. I do not have the time or inclination to take it up with the vendor. But can at least warn potential future customers.
Love this new app
Really enjoying this new app. Great useability and stable. I can see everything I need and do what I need. Shake everyday is a cool little feature, I use it daily!
