Description

myGovID is the Australian Government’s digital identity app that allows you to prove who you are and sign in to participating government online services.

The myGovID app is different to myGov. You can use the myGovID app to sign in to your myGov account.

Set up your myGovID in three easy steps:
1. Download the myGovID app
2. Enter your details – including your full name, date of birth and a personal email address that only you have access to.
3. Verify your identity to increase your identity strength. There are three identity strengths – Basic, Standard or Strong. Increasing your identity strengths allows you to access more services and better protects your identity.
Increase your identity strength by verifying your Australian identity documents, like your passport, driver’s licence and Medicare card. These documents are checked against existing government records. You can also choose to verify you photo, this is a one-off face verification check, to further increase your identity strength. The app scans your face to check that you’re a real person, the right person and verifying in real time.
You need to be 15 years or older to set up a myGovID. However, age restrictions may also apply to use some government online services. To find out if you’re eligible to use a particular service, check its terms of use.
Your personal information won’t be shared without your permission - putting you in control. myGovID is accredited under the Australian Trusted Digital Identity Framework which strictly controls how your identity data is collected, stored and used. It uses encryption technology as well as the security features in your device, such as fingerprint, face and password. This is to protect your identity and help prevent other people accessing your information.

Your myGovID is unique to you – don’t share it with others.

More confusion they don’t seem to have a clue

Just trying to do my BAS return as a small business owner. I generally end logging onto MyGov and the ATO Business Portal before being diverted back to somewhere else but I generally managed to get there - but now I’m faced with god knows how long to download a phone app to prove my identity to which website. I think the likelihood of getting a BAS return in on time this month is zero.
Why does the software have to change every few months (apart from it being so poor that it doesn’t work particularly well), why are all government ICT managers so totally inept.
I was appalled to read that they’ve already terminated alternatives and yet this is only out in a beta test version!
I’ve already dispensed with Google Authenticator as I’ve changed phones and it doesn’t seem to be possible to transfer it to the new phone. Now I e gone back to simple pass questions because the technology is designed to thwart hackers and to provide access to actual users.
Just give me one simple app that works - please!!!

Hi Michael, myGovID is your digital identity which makes it easier to prove who you are online - it's like the 100 point ID check but on your smart device. myGovID was designed to address the many limitations of AUSkey (e.g. limited to certain browsers and can’t be used on any device), as well as provide a more secure way to login to government online services. myGovID uses encryption and cryptographic technology as well as the security features in your device - such as fingerprint, face or password. This is to protect your identity and help stop other people accessing your information. For assistance with setting up the myGovID visit https://www.mygovid.gov.au/how-do-i-get-set-up.

Useless

The site is very unsophisticated. If you are male you can use your passport and your birth certificate. If you are female you can’t. If you are female and don’t have a Medicare card or drivers license either, you can’t use the site. I have done my parents book work using an Auskey for years from overseas because they live in rural NSW and their access to basics like internet and mobile phones is 3rd world. Their copper wire phone line is barely audible. I ran their book keeping from a distance. Now we can’t even do that!
Glad someone who dreamt up this system really thought out of the box!

Hi, the identity documents used to validate are the same for all individuals, regardless of gender. We're sorry to hear you haven't had a good experience with the app, are you able to provide more information about the errors you received when trying to validate your identity?

Yet another app fail by Oz Govt

It claims you only have to enter your ID once but every time I use it my password doesn’t work. Forgot password? No worries - you can’t reset it so you have to go through the ID process again.

Supposedly this easy but it’s not. Use the scanner in your passport or your Medicare card. It reads the data. You check it. It’s correct. It fails however because the app tells you it’s not correct. You type it in again and this time it works.

Got a copy of your NSW birth certificate? That’s valid ID. But it won’t help you here because the official copy doesn’t have the registration number. Get through it all. Log out. Log straight back in?

No. The new password you just set and wrote down doesn’t work. Prove your ID again. Thanks.
All this just so you can complete your obligations as a volunteer (or unpaid) sales tax collector.

Hi, once you have created a new password, myGovID gives you the option to enable fingerprint as a login option for your myGovID if your phone has this functionality (you must have a fingerprint registered on your device). myGovID uses encryption and cryptographic technology as well as the security features in your device, such as fingerprint, face or password to protect your identity and help stop other people accessing your information.

Can you please let us know which Iphone you are using so we can look into this further for you.
