Quantum Leap Forward with new Navigation Next

Ive been a committed MRA user since it began and appreciate their continuing dedication to improvement over the years.
But the new MRA Navigation Next app is a MAJOR leap forwards and a huge improvement over its predecessor.
The ease of use, graphics, functionality, intuitiveness and reliability of the app have all improved.
The only significant issue that remains is to do with route authoring in Route Lab on an iPad. You can only add a few waypoints before it stops allowing you to move the map (it only zooms) and add any more waypoints. You have to close and reopen the route and add a few more at a time. This doesn’t happen when authoring using a desktop (iMac in my case). Frustrating!

Almost perfect…

I’ve used many Garmin and BMW gps systems on my Motorcycle for many years. The Garmin route planner is difficult to use, quirky and slow. I’ve been looking for an App which lets me easily plan a route on a tablet, PC or Smartphone and easily transfer it to my GPS. I’ve found and tried several other apps, but none are as comprehensive, nor as fully developed as My-Route. With My-Route, I can create and edit any route quickly and easily, and make it available to anyone in my group. I’ve modified complex route at coffee stops and lunch and by loading it to Garmin Drive, it is in my Trip Planner ready for use. There are still minor differences in the final routes, but there are some simple rules to try to avoid that. I’m now beginning to run the My-Route Navigator on my phone to compare those routes against my GPS. That product is as closer to replacing my GPS than anything else I’ve found. There are route differences, but more care and practice will make it perfect. The only reason it didn’t score a 5 is the transferring of waypoints and shaping points to my Garmin XT is till a little fiddly.

Much improved, battery consumption a concern

The screen layout is improved especially in landscape view. More and better information such as name of, plus time and distance to the next waypoint or stop. I also like that route planning and Navigation are merged, select route, navigate and go - all very easy and user friendly. Battery consumption is worrying and much more than google or Apple Maps. I use a quad lock wireless charger and it can’t keep on top of battery use, it still drains and iPhone 12 with a healthy battery very quickly. 100% to 10% in around 2 hours whilst wireless charging (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off) This needs sorting before I can rely on the app for longer rides, yes I can plug the phone in on a wired charge each time I mount it to the bike which keeps on top of battery usage but for me this is a faff and not waterproof with my set up.
