Title says it all.If you like ads this is the app for you. When things are free, fair enough you get ads - unfortunately this ad supported app doesn’t give out free train tickets.Depending on your route you might get slightly cheaper prices for your journey here as you don’t pay commission fees, but for other journeys you will pay significantly more as this app isn’t able to calculate split fares - an oddity of our train networks whereby two tickets each covering a portion of the journey are cheaper than one ticket that covers the whole thing.Suggest using the Trainline app to FIND tickets, and then compare with the prices on the national rail website, then buying wherever is cheaper. In and of itself this app doesn’t add much value, just ads.Oh and the speed at which it takes to switch between tabs seems to be dependent on your internet speed. It’s never instant like in other phone apps (even if the tab content itself takes a while to load).
App needs a lot of improvement!

This app is a serious let down since the GUI was changed to look like the website. The people who have developed this don’t actually use the app or they would be really frustrated with how poor it is. Firstly why has the departure board screen been changed from a tabular form which displayed more information at a glance with the most relevant information ie departure time, destination & platform. Most of the other information is superfluous users don’t need to know it at first glance they can click into the details pages if they need to know more. Do you not realise that people who use this app generally use a phone with a small display rather than a 27” screen so more relevant details in a compact format is better maybe the format it was before… At present it takes up approximately 6 or 7 lines to display this extra information rather than only taking 1 or 2 lines maximum that it was before. Then when you look at the details of the train ie all the stops it goes to & then revert to the summary page it automatically tries to refresh itself so at best you have to wait a few seconds for it to update & worse still if you have lost connection or servers are down as is currently the case as I write this then you get no information. There is a refresh button available if users want to update the information Also this information doesn’t change every millisecond so isn’t really required. Also when on the details page previously you could click on a station & the app would show departures from that station which was useful for those that needed to change trains to get to their destination. Please improve this app to include the very useful features that were available before & the more compact display. The reason I haven’t complained before was that as you can see the explanation takes as long as it would to develop a better app but the final straw was today when all I got was sorry we can’t find the page when opening the app. Please fix this app back to much, much superior previous version.
Update made it worse

Was reasonably good but now a pain. For a start, after looking for train times (the main reason I and others use this app) when you click on the selected train it just cares about selling you a ticket. It used to show you the train and its stops easily (handy if you are trying to plan meeting someone at the station at their destination). You could then ‘pin’ the train so you could find it after it left its source but that’s gone! Can we just have a setting to ‘show purchase info’ so if using to plan you can avoid all the sales info (I use contactless or oyster so no need to buy a ticket)
Bug due to dashes in station names
KevinDGerbil
Not clear how to report a defect, so I’m doing it here. In Plan a Journey, enter a station with dashes in its name (e.g. Walton-on-Thames) - select “Get times and prices” - then select “Edit journey” to go back to the first screen - note that the dashes have been removed from the station name - it is now “Walton on Thames” - tap the station name and the app reports “No stations found please refine your search”, because it does not recognise the station name without dashes. The search should recognise the station name both with and without dashes.
