Help to ensure you’re flying your drone safely in the UK using Drone Assist, the drone safety app from Altitude Angel.

Please note that Drone Assist only provides airspace information for the UK.

Drone Assist provides location-based information on areas of airspace to avoid or in which extreme caution should be exercised, as well as on ground hazards that may pose safety, security or privacy risks.

Many drone pilots don’t realise that there are rules, set by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, for where and how you can fly your drone. This app will help you to abide by those rules, providing a tool to assist you in enjoying flying your drone whilst protecting your safety and the safety of other airspace users.

View areas of controlled airspace, such as airfields and airports, where flying a drone could be hazardous or prohibited

View ground hazards, such as schools, overhead power lines and sports venues, flying close to which may raise security, privacy or safety concerns and could breach UK rules on drone flying

Easily connect to which provides you with further information on the rules around drone flying in the UK, including the CAAs Dronecode, information on CAA-approved training courses and other useful resources.

Incredibly frustrating

The only reason I’ve given this app 2 stars is because I like the feature about telling you updated drone laws in the UK. Apart from that you can find much easier apps to use with more information to do a pre flight assessment.

Don’t even get me started about having to make an account, the system is frustrating and it took a good 10 minutes to get through the photo verification.

Go download another app, that’s my advice

Missing the most prevalent exclusion zone of the Dronecode!

This app is a good idea and should be able to help newcomers to understand where they can/can't fly.

However, it seems to me that the most prevalent of all the exclusion zones mentioned in the Dronecode is missing entirely, namely within 50m of any building or road.

To me, highlighting a large local park and saying that I need to exercise caution should I decide to fly there is all well and good, but seeming to show the surrounding built-up area as "clear" is daft. I know that it actually isn't showing it as "clear", as the text says to follow the Dronecode, but I only see that text if I look for it.

Tells you what you need to know

I’m not sure what other reviewers are expecting from this app. It shows you what airspace you might be flying in and from this you should be able to work out for yourself (using the rules that are provided by the CAA) whether you can fly or not. For free, it’s extremely handy.
