Description

This is the latest edition of the Drink Free Days app and is an opportunity for you to try out a new look and feel and a new typical week journey whilst we work on improving the functionality and cost calculation over the following months.
Make a pledge to take a few days off and you’re more likely to follow it through and reach your goals. Drink Free Days is for people who like a drink but want some support in tracking and cutting down on the booze. It also helps you understand more about your current drinking and risk levels as it common for people to underestimate how much they drink.

Health guidelines recommend we all take at least 3 days off drinking a week, so simply pledge and nominate a specific number of drink free days each week and get practical, daily support to help you stick to it and be more successful in reaching your goals. Feel healthier, lose weight and save money with the FREE Drink Free Days app today.

Helpful features:
• Simple and practical tips to help you control your drinking.
• Easy to update and track your Drink Free Days.
• Receive reminders when you need it most.
• Celebrate milestones when you reach your targets.

Download the FREE app now to:
• Save money and lose weight.
• Break bad habits and replace them with healthier alternatives.
• Help control your calorie intake.
• Cut down on the booze and feel happier, healthier and in control.

Please note: If you have physical withdrawal symptoms (like shaking, sweating or feeling anxious until you have your first drink of the day), please seek medical advice before you stop drinking. It can be dangerous to stop drinking too quickly without proper help. You can get advice from your GP or from your local alcohol support service.

Self-Management

In the age of the App, this App scores 9 out of 10. What I love best with these kind of Apps is this: they give you access to having an invisible Life Coach to help & aid you with any specific need & requirement. I came across this particular App while reading “Drink? The New Science of Alcohol & Your Health” By Professor David Nutt.
If, you are like me, you will find this App very helpful to monitor your Weekly Alcohol intake; I use a small amount of red wine, port, cider & Guiness stout for medicinal purposes: however, if you want to face your addiction & dependency on Alcohol then be ready to be shocked with what this App will reveal just exactly how much Alcohol you really are consuming!
Like the chronic condition of Diabetes, you will need to work out your Management Strategy by consulting various health Professionals; however, only one person can, in the end, control & manage your Disease/Addiction: YOU.

Helpful but doesn’t do much

A useful app in giving you an idea of how much you drink over or under the recommended units, and as a reminder to just not drink on certain days. But beyond a daily reminder and a congratulation for completing your drink free days, it does, well… not a lot. There are some tips on cutting down and some of the links to other resources either don’t work or send you back to the sign up for this app.
It’s a useful shock to start with and puts your drinking into perspective - the calories saved on those drink free days are quite a lot - and it is making me think twice about the value of having one or two drinks over none and whether the calories, lack of sleep etc are worth it for the sake of a couple of beers. But I’m three weeks in and I’m wondering what else it’s going to do to keep me going. Right now it’s a very static/passive app that isn’t promising much. Ongoing support and perspectives would be helpful - would it be too much effort to populate it with some fresher features? Let’s hope so because it’s in danger of letting itself - and us - down.

Cannot see old data

As other commenters have said, they seem to have removed the facility to scroll back to previous weeks and months so making the Progress option useless. I cannot think of any reason why they would make this change so I can only assume that it must be a bug. This used to be a basic but useful app. Now I will have to find something else.

Oct 2023 update. The app has been updated and the buttons that allow you to scroll between months and update previous days have been restored, which is good. I’ve improved the rating, but not back up up the previous 5 stars An apology from the developers who introduced this frustrating bug, which I guess was something to do with removing the visible property of the buttons, would be nice. And they should fix the issues with the money saved total - I really am not saving over £3,000 a week or even a month by reducing my wine consumption by a few glasses!

Thanks for your detailed feedback. Please can you share screenshots of the issues you are experiencing with weekly savings in the app? Savings are based calculations between your 'typical week' and Drink Free Days recorded. You can email us at digitalproducts@dhsc.gov.uk
