A must have app for photo editors

I’ve been using Raw Power, on both Mac and iPad for a number of years now. It’s always been my go-to photo editor when I first import from my camera. Now Nitro has come along, it’s evolved well, and brings a better interface, and many more features. I have tried the macOS version, and it’s great, but my primary device is my iPad Pro. Nitro works brilliantly on that, even though it’s a pre-M series. It works with either external Files, or with the Photos Library. I use Photos for my storage, as I can access my photos easily across iCloud, as well as share with family, and Nitro enhances that in so many ways - such as bringing back star ratings, and a kind of smart album setup on iOS. Nitro integrates extremely well with the Photos Library, and enables cross device editing (something missing from many other photo apps, and rarely done as well as Nik manages). Support is also superb, and Nik will endeavour to resolve any issues if possible. This is a must-have photo editor, especially if you use Photos and want a bit more editing power, and should be high on your shopping list of photo editing software. Thanks Nik.

Finally delivers my ideal photo workflow

Nitro has been a complete revelation for me. It’s reminded me why I loved Aperture so much back in the day (unsurprising, since Nitro’s creator was the lead behind Aperture, a fact I discovered after I started using it). The flag, reject and rating tools are the best I’ve ever encountered. They allow me to triage my photos more efficiently than ever before, regardless of the input device I’m using – gestures, keyboard and Apple Pencil all work incredibly well. The editing tools are powerful and well-implemented, even for someone like myself who doesn’t need the RAW editing functionality. And it’s built from the ground up with a left-handed interface, which is a massive improvement over competing apps (*cough* Darkroom *cough*). I found the UI easy to learn for such a powerful tool, and whenever I needed guidance the user manual and accompanying videos had me covered every time. I can’t believe an app this good comes from such a small outfit. I’ve used Apple Photos, Photomator, Luminar and Darkroom, none of them is as fluid and useful as Nitro.

Best tool I’ve found for working alongside Apple Photos

The look and feel of Nitro is a big step forward from Raw Power. For me, it offers some real benefits over alternatives on the iPad. Editing tools are extensive and flexible. I often prefer the results to those obtained from other apps. The options for rating and filtering large photo libraries are also impressive. This extends to images accessed via the Files app. The developer is very responsive to suggestions for improvements. You should also check the roadmap on the Gentleman Coders website to see the future for this exciting app.
