One Scream is a voice-activated personal safety app for women and teenage girls.

One Scream is designed for moments of extreme distress, where your instinctive reaction is to scream.

Your instinctive panic scream is what triggers the app to identify your location and send help to your loved ones.

Simply keep your phone nearby, with the app on, and One Scream will do the rest. It even works from the bottom of your handbag.

IS ONE SCREAM FOR ME?
-- One Scream does not listen to your conversations, it recognises only one distinct sound --

The app picks up panic screams from girls aged 14+ and women under 60

Providing your phone has a signal, this wakes up the app to sound an alarm

WHAT IS A PANIC SCREAM?
A panic scream is a woman’s innate response to danger. It’s louder and more complex than other sounds and linked directly to fear. The noise from a regular conversation may measure just a few Hz on a sound scale but a panic scream can push the number way above 100 Hz.

One Scream is programmed to detect a call for survival, not just loud noises and playful screaming but urgent, guttural screams that signify genuine distress.

HOW DOES THE APP WORK?
Select, notify & add up to 3 people to be notified if you panic scream, your helpers when you need them most.
Allow One Scream to use your microphone so the app can hear you scream
Allow access to your location so the app can send it to your helpers
Allow push notifications so you can cancel an alarm if you need to
Press the Play button to turn on One Scream and Pause to turn it off

HOW DOES IT WORK?
When One Scream is on and detects a panic scream it activates an alarm on your phone.
You hear a loud siren, the phone vibrates and lights flash. A notification pops up to give you 20 seconds to press it and cancel the alarm if you need to.

After 20 seconds, both an automated voice call and a text message is sent to your Helpers to deliver the One Scream alert, which includes your name and location.

-- IMPORTANT--
One Scream can’t hear you when you’re on a call, if your phone is off.

We are testing its’ capabilities if you are in a loud environment like at a concert or on a rollercoaster.

The app won’t work if you have no phone signal or are using another app that uses the microphone. It also can’t detect a scream if your voice is changed by the effects of alcohol or drugs.

One Scream does not record conversations or calls to Helpers.

The app can only detect panic screams and does not track your location in real-time.

We respect your privacy and exist only to empower women and teenage girls.

(One day we’d love to offer One Scream to everyone, but young girls, seniors and males sound different when they scream. We’d have to build a separate app for that.)

Definitely recommend

I’ve been using One Scream for about 6 months now and it’s made a huge difference to my confidence. Especially when walking home from the tube station late at night.

More thinking needs to go in go this

I tested my scream using the “test scream feature” and I wasn’t loud enough. I also tried to scream with the app in the background and nothing happened. I see other reviews say the same and are getting the same automated replies from the developer saying “this app won’t respond to yells or loud noises” which is ridiculous and also the test screams advising to “scream as loud as you can” is not great, what will neighbours think? What if they phone the police thinking something is wrong. The app only reacts to ‘panic screams’ but naturally you scream in a panic if you aren’t panicking. And also what if a woman is grabbed from behind and a hand covered over her mouth, her screams would be muffled. What about a deaf lady who can’t hear anybody behind her , their screams aren’t always like normal screams due to them unable to hear their own voices
This app is a great idea but i think it needs to be redeveloped and have all kinds of screams detected

Developer Response ,

Hi, We are sorry you are so frustrated with the app. Please note that One Scream has been developed to help women in severe moments of distress when she has no viable option to reach for her phone. Research suggest that women tend to scream in those moments but of course this is not true for everybody and it is unlikely that every situation can be covered by a single application. We are here for you if you have any other questions or feedback. All questions we receive within the app (the speech bubble) are answered individually.

This app is a must have Especially if you walk alone.

A friend alerted me to this existence of the BRILLIANT new app last night.
I immediately sent it to at least 50 people in my contacts and then I downloaded the app myself for my personal use.
I tested the app today and it worked like a charm.
I was SUPER impressed.
I can’t help but think that if Sarah Everand had this app on her phone the she might have had a chance.
Women all over the uk need to get this app on their phones ASAP it could save your life.
it will do wonders for your confidence.
This app is like having a pocket bodyguard with you all the time.
Thank you so very much to the developers of this app.
God Bless you.
