Not quite up there with the web browser version

I really love the browser version of Onshape and it has been the most accessible and versatile CAD software I have tried to date that is truly professional grade. There are however one or two little niggles with the iOS version that I have found make it a little harder to get the hang of.

When you sketch a shape in the browser version you get a text box along each edge for you to enter the required dimensions for the shape. In the iOS version you have to manually add dimensions to get the shape to the size you want. This one thing really slows down the whole process of working the iOS version and isn’t easy to get the hang of as the dimension tool is hidden in the sub menus. If you could add the “auto-dimension” feature this app would be fantastic. Whilst I solely use the iOS app on the iPad I can see why the developers have hidden the tools in submenus to make it iPhone friendly and I can live with that but the auto-dimension feature would be a great addition please.

Not for faint hearted

App very touchy at times especially using fingers, you will need a touch screen pen to be more accurate.

It’s also not a tool for beginners, after several hours use I still end up scratching my head at times.

I’ve no doubt some people can use this effectively, I’m one who can’t.

I’ve no problem using other cad dedicated programs this just seams to not suited for me. ( I’m used to 2d cnc programming)

Mid star rating as I have no doubt it works but for some it’s not the right program for a touch screen device.

Steep learning curve but rewarding results once mastered

Was using Shapr3D as thought was best CAD for designing 3D models but didn’t like the high price tag, tried Onshape and after a couple of days of head scratching was blown away with how good this CAD is, every bit as good if not better than Shapr3D once you mastered it. If you want to design models for 3D printing this is it, no brainier. Only criticism is the help files need improving as not in-depth enough for the app, the other app mention above handles it much better with simple to follow prompts and videos for each tool you select.

It could be great, but hindered by awful user interface

It has the majority of the functionality you need from a 3D CAD package, however the user interface is awful especially if you need to be productive. The designers seem to have decided that they don’t want to follow convention and have opted for what I can only describe as an incomprehensible work flow. For example to Move an item I would expect a select and drag, but no, with this package it’s call translate, ( try finding Move in Help - not even a hint) you then have to find the icon in a drop down box and select it. I have given up with this package but will reinstall it if the user interface has a major revamp, I would even pay for it.

Can’t put it down

Since starting to use it on my tablet and laptop and finding the app on iTunes, I seriously cannot put it down!
Even if you’re not creative, it’s easy to use and you will be able to produce 3D designs.
Best of all, it’s web-based, there’s no save it or lose it, you can collaborate with multiple users, friends or colleagues and make changes on the fly, where anyone, or everyone collaborating, can make changes at the same time.
All-in-all, I don’t think there is a better CAD package anywhere in the world!!!!

Very rewarding

I would say that if you are dedicated and want to do it enough most people could learn to use this, I picked up this app 2 months ago, I’ve already created 3 flying machines, a jet engine, the Artemis 3 habitat concept, and I have never in my life touched CAD
I am completely self taught and go to sleep thinking of new ideas for a new project.

I would recommend this to anyone who is into engineering or is artistic and creative, hope you found this use full!

Utterly Brilliant

I picked this up without any tuition. If you’ve used 3D CAD before you’ll find it intuitive and easy to use. It packs in great menus into a small space on my iPhone 6s, runs fast and is easy to edit. This is a pro product without the bloat ware. I never thought I would be designing on my phone as previously the apps were too fiddly. This is a new standard.

OnShape is amazing in browser, but not iOS.

As the title suggests, the browser version is really good, I thought I might be able to be moderately productive on an iOS device. I was wrong, I might be an idiot, but I managed to create a sketch do a simple shape, and delete it all… twice! Save yourself the pain, wait till your back in the office. Use this for viewing only

fantastic app!

this is a great software, i’m finally able to create good 3d models on mobile with this! i just wish it had some of the features the PC version has (colouring in separate faces etc)

Basically unusable

Been trying for an hour, the shape does not fill in and the user interface is impossible to navigate, things are not described as well as they should be especially when this app is different to others
