Open/Close is a series of street art trails of painted doors around Dundee. This app helps you find out more about these artworks and where to go to see them in person.

Bringing street art to Dundee, Open/Close is injecting life to the alleyways and forgotten corners of the city centre. working with local artists.

Street art can make a city look truly amazing. We’re not talking the tagging you may be used to seeing – we’re talking about beautiful artworks which everyone can appreciate. It improves the urban environment, cleans up vandalised areas, and encourages the public to take ownership of their spaces and take pride in their city. Another bonus is that street art actually discourages vandalism and tagging, as areas with art already in place are far less likely to be targeted.

With the booming creative scene in Dundee - from the Dundee Design Festival to the DCA, Generator Projects and Wasps studios, not to mention the newly opened V&A Museum of Design - we thought it was high time Dundee saw some more street art. The aim of the project is to brighten up areas which are prone to vandalism, opening them up to the public and encouraging them to explore their city and go places they may not normally go, using new and exciting routes to rediscover their city.

The Open/Close app was developed in close collaboration with Open/Close Dundee and a portion of any profits made from sales of the app will go to Open/Close Dundee to help fund further activities.

The app provides a way to find out more about the artists, artworks and most importantly a guide map to the locations of the Open/Close Dundee street art trails.

What’s New

Version 1.18

- This update adds a replacement artwork to the Stobswell trail. Unfortunately Ross Hastie's work was vandalised beyond repair so Michael Corr was commissioned to do its replacement, his portrait depicts Ethel Moorhead who lived in in Dundee from 1901-1911 and was one of the most notorious and militant suffragettes, famously throwing an egg at Winston Churchill at a meeting here!
