Description

Bring the solar system down to earth with the Our Place in Space Augmented Reality app.

Centered around an epic scale model of the solar system designed by the artist Oliver Jeffers with scientist Professor Stephen Smartt and a creative team led by Nerve Centre, the Our Place in Space app allows you to walk through a scaled version of our solar system over 10km. At our scale of 591 million to 1, the Sun is 2.35m in diameter and Pluto only 4mm!

You can use the app as you walk the Our Place in Space sculpture trail from February 24th 2023 at from the Transport Museum, Northern Ireland or from anywhere else in the world.

The app will show your relative distance as you journey through the solar system, while you discover facts about space and find some of Oliver Jeffers’ characters. The app also includes a cosmic view on conflict, looking back in time at ‘Us and Them’ through human history. Finally, add your own star to the universe to mark your experience.

Parents and guardians, please supervise younger children as they use the app.

Important:
- This app uses augmented reality.
- No personal data store is stored or transmitted during this process.
- Users are asked to consent that "I have read and agree to the terms and conditions".

ClareFrances ,

Does not have a map, and repeatedly asks for full location info

If you just want to see a map of the locations, this is useless. There is no map here, and the app insists that you give it permission to access your location at all times, asking for this in an endless right loop.

I wanted to see a map because the schematic diagram on the website is so uninformative about the locations of the further planets.

Dancing Brian ,

Requires location services to read about planets

Loops asking for permission to know where you are every two seconds, even if all you want to do is read about the planets. Unusable if you don’t want to share this private information.

TomLang ,

Requires unnecessary invasive privacy permissions

Personally, I would advise against having this data harvesting app on your, or your child’s, device especially since the app developer is relatively unknown.
