Just planning our trip to the islands this summer. Someone put an awful lot of work into this app, full of really useful information, don't know we'll fit everything in!
Outer Hebrides App
New to me and what a fantastic app. Very impressed but how do I get to Scarista beach? A few more directions would help. Thank you for the bird of prey trail.
Very useful wee app!
We used this app for a recent tour of the Outer Hebrides travelling from Barra in the south to Stornoway in the north. I found the itinerary feature very useful to plan our excursions. You can search for the kind of things you would like to do and filter out things you're not interested in. It has detailed information for most of the attractions as well as photos, website and contact information. You can save thugs which interest you and I t puts markers on the map for each of your saved locations so you can easily see where you want to go. It also has useful things like toilets that you can look up.
It could be improved with Apple maps integration (rather than searching Safari for Google Maps) and also a wee location pointer to show where you currently are (though this would rely on you having a signal which is not always possible in the Hebrides!)
It also does a slightly annoying pause when it launches the app and checks for updates. It doesn't tell you it's doing this it just seems as though the app has crashed. It required two of these downloads while we were away for only one week so is presumably a pretty regular occurrence. It doesn't have everything you might like to visit but it does have a very large (and regularly updated) library.
Overall it was fabulous and we would definitely recommend it!
