Good app

I have bought this app with the speaker functionality and was working very good. Suddenly everything stops and the app couldn’t open. I had to download it from iCloud to use it again but The speaker doesn’t work and all my favourite words gone. The worst thing is it asked me to buy again which i have already paid for premium, I was very disappointed and rate the app with one star but after few days I got a notification of updates and I started to update the app , then the speaker functionality started except all my favourite words which are not there any more. At the beginning I was so disappointed but now once the pronunciation speaker is working, my faith on recommending this app restored. I really like this dictionary as it is very useful especially the one with speaker functionality and no advertising pop ups. I gave the app 4 stars, Just because it didn’t restore my favourite words I couldn’t give the app 5 stars which really deserves. Therefore , I highly recommend this app to anyone who wants to have dictionary. It worths buying it.

Developer Response ,

Hello,
Thank you very much for your feedback.
If you're having any issues in the future, feel free to email us at: dictionaries-ios@mobisystems.com
As for the favorites issue: Your words are stored inside of the app, so deleting the app also deletes your favorites entries. Sadly as of the moment, there is no way to store those words so that they are not deleted when you have deleted the app.

Rather Pricey for Some

I had been planning as soon as I returned to work to pay the one-off fee for the offline access and no ads. Now I find that the one-off fee is no longer available and I must pay a minimum of £20 per year. Assuming that I keep the app (which would be my plan), this would cost just under £60 for three years, £100 for five years. While I completely understand the need for users to pay for this service, I, as a fee paying student and a zero hour worker with kids to care for, cannot justify such a high spend. It’s great for those who can afford it, but clearly this dictionary is not for the rest of us (except for the one word a day we are permitted without the premium package). Disappointing to say the least. After posting this review, it did get a response from the developer, but they seem to have missed the point I was making (or didn’t actually read the review properly). I made it clear that I agreed it was necessary to charge, but it was the jump from a reasonable one-off fee to a fee that can be prohibitive for some that I find problematic. They didn’t address this in their response. They also ‘reminded’ me that I don’t have to subscribe; I found this quite a callous response. But it is telling of their attitude (and lack of concern) about their less financially able users.

Developer Response ,

Hello there,
We do apologize if there was any misconception on our end and please do not assume that there is a lack of concern, on the contrary, your feedback is important to us and we always aim for a freat user experience. We do understand the concern when it comes to the price, but most digital services of the Oxford University Press (OUP) are gradually migrating to subscription payments and we as a developer need to follow their path as they are licensing the content to us. We can discuss the fact that it seems quite costly with the team so you can all enjoy the Premium features for a fair price, we could not promise at the moment but we will have it noted. If you have any other concers and suggestions on how we can improve, we are always open to hear them.
All the best to you,
Mary-Ann

Dropped a star - used to be five before update

The latest update has replaced the classic and very usable interface with a “modernised” u/i which is unattractive, less straightforward and has a spurious “word of the day” section cluttering up the layout (with no option to hide it!). A backward step from the elegantly simple old interface which made using the dictionary easy. Now there is more going on, which app designers may love, but users don’t. Would love the option of going back to the old interface, or of hiding some of the new additions. The dictionary content is still great (phew!) but drops from five stars to four, in my book, because of the retrograde new look.

Developer Response ,

Hello,
Thank you for the honest feedback, we will definitely note it in our backlog. Did you mean to say that the "Recent" words clutter the page? The WOTD list is actually hidden at the moment, and you can view your list if you tap on "View all". Your voice always plays an important role in our improvement. Please, be sure to contact us at dictionaries-ios@mobisystems.com if you should have any other suggestions. :)
Sincerely,
Mary-Ann
