Does not work offline
After the update the look and feel of the latest version of this app on iPad is better. But it just doesn’t work. At all. Each time you go away from the app and come back, even for a few seconds, it logs you out. It’s also supposed to work offline. It doesn’t. Each time you log back in you have to download the content all over again. At least the old version, clunky as it was, did what it was supposed to. I would give this negative stars if I could. Epic fail from PADI. Seems like someone sold them a shiny new toy which they launched without even any basic testing. I paid over £100 for the privilege of “learning” via this app and it falls over spectacularly at this.
Does the job!
Not sure what all the fuss is about with these negative reviews...it’s basically an iBooks-like app that allows you to download the PADI Training Manuals (and videos) before you get to your dive centre.
I downloaded the manual (videos were a bit large space wise) whilst on holiday, read through whilst completing the quizzes at the end of each section and then took the final exam at the end. All I had to do was type in my PADI account details to upload my results! After finishing my dives at the centre I had to do a quick review test of 25 multiple choice questions (nothing I hadn’t seen before) and they signed off on my licence!
Very handy if you don’t want to carry around a chunky textbook, fill out multiple choice questions by hand or have to sit the exam at your dive centre!
Works for the intended purpose
As per other comments - app does what it is meant to do and download the digital book and video files for offline studying; for those who claim this doesn’t work its most likely because you have purchased the “online” version of PADI eLearning rather than “touch” version - very simple mistake as I did so myself!
Three stars however as it doesn’t support downloading in the background so the app has to stay open and if you do change to another app or close it etc it will have to restart the download - make sure you’re charged and speedy internet connection will help!
