Description

A collection of some of the best known Gods and Goddesses of Paganism.

"Paganism" refers to a range of spiritual paths. These are generally Neopagan religions based on the deities, symbols, practices, seasonal days of celebration and other surviving components of ancient religions, which had been long suppressed.

Paganism refers to the authentic religions of ancient Greece and Rome as well as surrounding areas. It originated from the Neolithic (Stone Age) era. The term, pagan, is derived from the Latin word, paganus, which means a country dweller. The pagan usually has a belief in many gods (polytheistic), but only one is chosen as the one to worship which represents the chief god and supreme godhead.

Many Pagan deities are associated with various aspects of the human experience, such as love, death, marriage, fertility, healing, war, and so forth. Still others are connected to different phases of the agricultural cycle, the moon, and the sun. Read more about the different Types of Pagan Deities, so you can figure out which ones you'd like to try working with, depending on your personality and your magical goals.

Had Promise, but.....

This could have been such a nice little app, but so sparse on the detail for each of the deities it makes this of use only to novices in this area.

If you need details over a summary, look elsewhere.

If the detail gets added on a later release, i would gladly up my star rating.

For most of us, this app is mis-named.

If you were looking for pagan deities, beware this is ‘pagan’ only inasmuch as it lists non-christian deities from the usual, familiar groups. Which means for most of us (in the english-speaking world at any rate) this isn’t actually the app we need when we’re looking for something relating to paganism. Yes, strictly speaking anything non-christian is pagan, but the word ‘pagan’ implies somthing much more specific for most english-speaking people, and none of that information is included here.
If you want a guide to gods from different cultures (ancient Egyptian, Greek, Chinese etc) then this is a good quick field guide with brief notes.
If however, you’re intrested in pagan gods of northern europe, you’ve got a choice between ‘celtic’ and ‘norse’. The same old popular stuff we’ve already read about, in other words.
So if you were intrested in wicca or any of the hundreds of deities worshipped in ancient Britain as part of pagan magic rituals, you’d be completely out of luck, as I was.

Very interesting!

As an avid researcher of mythology, especially Celtic, this handy little guide on pagan deities is very good for the price! Could be a little more in-depth on each god/goddess but considering how many it names and from so many different cultures, it's definitely worth getting! :)
