Description

**Tell us what you find whilst out walking**
**Pathwatch is the Ramblers app designed to protect, improve and celebrate paths.**

The Big Pathwatch app is now called Pathwatch. We’ve updated the app so you can record features (both good and bad) whilst out walking, and we’ll use what you send us to campaign and find long term solutions to protect our paths for years to come.

We’ll also look at all the path problems reported and work in close collaboration with local authorities to see what can be done.

Using the app you can report features in England, Wales and Scotland, and download detailed maps to see rights of way near you.

Download this free app to start recording features. Make sure you have a good internet (Wi-Fi) connection before you download as when you login for the 1st time it will download background mapping data. This will take a few minutes – be patient, it will get there! If you need help when using the app, tap the (?) at the top of the screen.

To take part we need you to register so that we can collect and manage the data properly. You can do this via the app or you can choose to do this online via our website, and use the app on your mobile device only when you are out on your walk.

If you do have any trouble getting started, please do get in touch through pathwatch@ramblers.zendesk.com – our helpful team are on hand with advice to help you get started!

This app originally started off as The Big Pathwatch - a project to build up a national picture of the state of our footpaths – the first time this was ever been done! This was kindly supported by Ramblers Holidays Charitable Trust, the charitable trust of Ramblers Worldwide Holidays. The collected information formed a detailed report on the path network.

The Ramblers helps everyone, everywhere, enjoy walking and protects the places we all love to walk. It’s the only charity dedicated to looking after paths and green spaces, leading walks, opening up new places to explore and encouraging everyone to get outside and discover how walking boosts your health and your happiness.

Enjoy your walk!

Missing basic things

As others have said, the app needs to be able to add photos you’ve already taken, it would help if you got feedback on things that you’ve reported and adding a note would be useful too.

Very good for ambles in the countryside

Simple little app that shows 1:25k OS maps. As well as being able to report problems you can also report good places. Must take pictures with app for this as sadly can’t use ones already in your camera roll. Maybe it’s so they know it’s your pictures for copyright reasons.

Can store a few map tiles/squares for offline use, just remember to remove some if you need to store some for other walks. With a data connection it will download tiles as and when needed. Low battery drain as not much going on in the background as it only updates your position when you request it- then downloading more tiles if needed.

Thanks for your 5* review Andy! And thank you for your feedback on what isn't working so well. We hope to make some critical updates to the app in the coming year.

Many thanks again for your support!

Does the job - hope it is improved and updated soon

This is handy for reporting problems with public footpaths when out and about but if you were thinking of doing anything particularly clever with it you may be disappointed! It works fine without downloading map tiles provided you have a data connection at the moment of need. I think there are some glitches syncing with your web-based Pathwatch account but just use it on the go to report “features” and do your bit for other walkers. I’d normally give an app of this quality 3 stars but it does do the job and I want to support Ramblers Assoc in their endeavours 😀

Developer Response ,

Hello! Thanks for your review and supporting us! We our keen to make some crucial updates to the app to improve the user experience and developing the next version of the Pathwatch app is a key priority for us in the upcoming year.

Many Thanks,
Robyn
