Description

Quite simply the most efficient, easy-to-use, most powerful audio CD ripping and encoding application out there. Here's why:

Simultaneous encoding to 7 formats:
Phile Audio will encode to all of the most popular audio file formats: MP3, MP4-AAC, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, Apple Lossless, WAV and AIFF. You can specify one or more encoding formats before ripping, so you only have to rip once. Archive a copy of your CD collection in a lossless format, such as FLAC or Apple Lossless, and encode a smaller, compressed copy for your portable media player. Phile Audio will import iTunes-supported file formats automatically, saving you a manual step if you want to import to iTunes.

Simultaneous ripping from multiple CD/DVD/BD-ROM drives:
Phile Audio will rip from as many drives as you can hook up to your computer, simultaneously. While one disc is ripping, you can be entering the information for another one. This is a huge advantage for your CD archiving workflow, as you don't have to wait as long for discs to finish ripping to move on to the next one.

Multiple options for cover art:
Phile Audio allows you to drag and drop cover art files from a web browser or your computer directly into the application, or, import your images from a digital camera or memory card with the built-in camera device browser. There's even an interface to use your scanner to scan your cover art directly into your disc information! No other software offers this degree of integration for your cover art!

Retrieve CD information from the FreeDB online database, iTunes, or Music:
Phile Audio automatically identifies and retrieves your discs information from the online FreeDB database. This huge resource is sure to find disc information for most of your CDs. If you've already set up CDs in iTunes / Music, you can use those as your source as well!

More information can be input up-front:
In addition to the extensive options for cover art, Phile Audio allows you to enter individual years per track, composers, groupings, gapless tags, compilation tags, disc numbering (if part of a multiple-disc set), comments and lyrics for supported encoding formats. You don't have to revisit your encoded files from other software to add these tags. You can do it all right before ripping, a huge time-saver!

Customizable file naming:
For those that are not importing into iTunes or to a non-taggable format, keeping file names in a usable format can be a real pain. Phile Audio allows you to customize the exact file name convention based on disc and track information to fit your needs.

Efficient encoding:
Phile Audio detects how many processors are in your computer and runs encoding jobs simultaneously on all multi-core processors. Encoding happens in the background, so your discs can rip as fast as possible without being encumbered by potentially slow encoding times. You can pause encoding if you need the extra processor power for another application. You can even close the application in the middle of encoding a batch of discs, and Phile Audio will remember where you left off. Very handy for users on-the-go!

Real-time status:
When ripping discs, Phile Audio gives you an indication of your drive's DAE (Digital Audio Extraction) or "ripping" speed. This serves as a benchmark for your drive. While encoding, the status of all of your encoding jobs are easily seen and understood.

We encourage you to give Phile Audio a run through your CD collection. You'll wonder how you ever did without it, especially if you have multiple fast disc drives!

What’s New

Version 2.2.0

- Phile Audio now uses gnudb.org in place of freedb.org:
On the 13th of June 2020 it was observed that the URL used for lookups, freedb.freedb.org, no longer resolved to a host name and as a result the service no longer appears to operate. gnudb.org has continued to provide the freedb.org database after freedb.org was shutdown.

Audiophile FLAC to NAS

I have a synology NAS drive and a Yamaha CD-N500 network player. I am very new to network players and have been experimenting and reading up a lot recently. I was initially using iTunes to send my ripped CD's in Apple Lossless to the NAS but was a little dissapointed with the sound quality and the fact that all other iTunes content was heading to the NAS as well (iPhone apps etc). I only want to keep the NAS for lossless audio and Time Machine backup, so it was starting to look at bit messy with all the other iTunes stuff and triplicate backups of everything! The most impressive aspects of Phile Audio are the FLAC sound quality, the DB disc identfication, ease of use and the fact that it's on the App Store (not "possibly dodgey" freeware). it would be 5 stars if the album artwork was added automatically, but you can find it all online and just drag it across, even so, I am really pleased with the results and the artwork looks good on the iPad when used to control the network player. Well done Guys!!!

Excellent way to rip CDs

Although I work on a Mac, I prefer FLAC as my default file type (it works with all of my hi-res audio devices) but also want copies in ALAC for iTunes and mp3 quality for the car - enter Phile Audio!

It seamlessly rips in as many formats as you want, adding them automatically to iTunes in lossless ALAC, to a FLAC folder on my Synology NAS drive, and to a folder for Car Music in maximum bitrate mp3.

It pulls CD data from either FreeDB or from your iTunes library, so it's easy to use. If you want to (I do) you can alter the album name, track names, artist names and darg in your own cover art, and it appears everywhere with correct tags and information. Brilliant.

Multiple formats all at the same time

I have avoided the iTunes migration to Apple Music as I have hundreds of playlists with tens of thousands of CD ripped tracks. I used to use a dougscripts script to "Rip this where I want it" for portability, rather than a track automatically being added to Apple Music. This software does what I want and more. It will create multiple instances of each track separated by format type where I want them for later inclusion in my DJ software. Most useful and worth every penny. RTFM to get the most out of it.
