Having owned some Hue bulbs for a few years I decided to expand my collection with the addition of some Hie Play lights and the HDMI Sync box. All worked well initially, but after about a week of use I am now dogged with connectivity issues between the app and the box. Despite the online assistance, performance has not been restored, and the 1st rate hardware is being let down by 3rd rate software. Please resolve it soon otherwise I’ll be returning the products as they no longer fulfil their requirements 🙁

Near perfect it’s just missing one thing

I bought the Philip hue sync and with it some additional lights for my tv. I already had some but wanted to add a few more setup and configuration was a breeze. Perhaps one of the best if not the best product setup experience via an app I’ve experienced. However there is one fundamental feature missing and that variable brightness control. What do I mean by this?I have six lights around my tv some places behind the tv, some placed behind cabinets and some in plain view. Because of the varied positions each light would benefit with a different level of brightness. Those behind the cabinets and tv would benefit from being a bit brighter while those in plain view would benefit from being dimmer. However this isn’t possible currently hopefully this is something that can be resolved via a software update. Otherwise all good.

Immersive but expensive

Having Hue lights sync with TV, Video and Gaming content is not a standard feature of a lighting system. But the Hue Play Sync HDMI box allows the lights to be part of an immersive home entertainment experience. And for the most part the ‘BOX’ and this app do a great job. I am sure over time with firmware and app updates, the capabilities will improve even further. Yes, the ‘BOX’ is expensive and prices will drop; a positive side effect of its use is that because it is a HDMI switch box it frees-up HDMI ports on your TV to connect other devices you may not want to sync the lights with (although I cannot think of any 😏).
