Having used the desktop app remotely between my Macs I was somewhat sceptical of the iPad app. I didn’t want to pay for something that didn’t work the way I wanted. I was used to using Air Video but support for that stopped when IOS 11 came out so I had no choice. However, my fears were unnecessary. I only stream movies with the setup being a little complicated at first particularly doing this remotely but it works....well! The option to play the movie in higher quality is a bonus as is the addition of subtitles if available. I also like the fact you can continue on a different system from where you left off. The small price I paid is enough and I’m more than happy with it as long as it continues to be supported on the iPads.UPDATE:- no support for older Macs. All of a sudden it has stopped working and is asking for server version 1.3. This would not in itself be an issue but it still works perfectly when streaming to PS4. So it seems that the support fails at the first hurdle as they do not offer help, merely direct you to the forums. This has rendered it useless as a paid app and the customer service is not existent. Go for a VLC option which is tried and tested.
Media networking made very tiresome at the moment

As a visually impaired user of the IOS app, I am always having to use the app with Apples Voice Over text to speech running to be able to navigate around. This has been fantastic for those like me and those people who may have had to help out when possible in the past. However the latest version has not fixed the 3D Touch problem with voiceover turned on you cannot bring the controls up, which is quite annoying and now leaves me, and for the lack of a better word, blind. The other really irritating NEW thing is totally unresponsive playback controls, where the only way to get it to shut up is to manually close the app. When you do run it again and try to play something, you may now have two different things playing at once, this is probably the AI trying to make up for lost time and just cramming more in. Pretty please Plex team fix my miracle media machine.
Good, but update has broken the experience
Stasis8364
In short, I’m protesting the new update. I can no longer download a series to my phone as new app layout removes the ‘Download to device.’ Button for movies / TV shows. - It also removes music and personal photos unless you had it set up prior. There’s also the removal of the ability to hide libraries - Say, you had a folder from your camera roll. You could previously remove it from the view, meaning all of that folder won’t appear in the main view. Now though, it’s un-hideable. I’m not impressed with what’s just been removed. But prior, I would have said it’s perfect, with the only issue being, if you’ve downloaded a large series or many things, and you went above 60-70gb, I’ve found it caused *some* app instability due to how it scans the downloads, whilst doing other things, The new layout does look nice, but its form over functionality now. And a quick search through the menus, tap and hold the series doesn’t bring up a download option… Music being removed as well hasn’t impressed me. I did use Plex for music on my commute, as well as provide me with some TV content at work, so now it feels like a massive downgrade.
New Update. Broken Ui and experience.
Fisherd80
After an auto update to new version. Every aspect is broken. Basic features missing.Broken Features:- Sign in takes minutes no matter the situation. - Ui experience is buggy and laggy. Took 30 seconds for any option in setting or in video playback to recognise the touch feedback. - When playing video takes minutes for it to play (Direct Play). Scrubbing to another point into video sometimes restarts play back or have to wait for the player to recognise the request before moving to point in video. - Video title during playback is soo oversized it off the screen. Cannot manually get rid of video title or playback controls until after waiting a random period of time (Simple in old version to click again to hide). - Had to reselect my pinned libraries twice in the last few hours. Missing Features:- No Picture and Picture. - Cannot remove Plex recommended playlists. Why would I want a playlist from someone else or randomly generated. Used to be ableTo disable in settings. - Missing filtering features in both films and tv shows.- Locked to landscape. No options whatsoever concerning that. Good Points:- Videos finally played. The above bugs and missing features are just some of issues I have hadTo content with since the forced update. If update can be rolled back I would and block any further updates until the app is in a much better condition. FYI - Better condition means that app functions at least as good as the old version.
NEW:
- Add actions for adding content to playlists and collections.
- Added search to the Manage Streaming Services screen.
- Email to the account settings screen.
FIXES:
- Crashes on details, library, settings and Live TV screens.
- Deleting a playlist would silently fail.
- Downloads could restart after backgrounding and foregrounding the application.
- Empty images could be uploaded as posters.
- Fixed a crash that could happen when launching the app from an unknown deep link.
- Fixed images reloading from the network when returning to a screen.
- Horizontally swiping on Manage Artwork screen causes vertical scrolling and can close the menu.
- Player: Auto-Skip Intro/Credits could not be cancelled.
- Player: Live TV playback could stop after initial airing ended.
- Player: prefer playing versions that exist over ones that don't.
- Tapping the edit button on the moderation status screen would close the screen instead of opening the editor.
- The context menu would stay open after performing some actions.
- The signed in user's friend request count would be incorrectly displayed on others' friends lists.
